If you don't have it already Cadoo is fabulous for all ages. I often lay it with my brothers and nieces and nephew - ages from 5 to 45 :)

Great game - the kids love it and so do we!!!  Definitely would give the thumbs up!
- By craigles Date 01.12.07 19:28 UTC
All time favourite in my house is Scattergories.
- By zarah Date 01.12.07 19:38 UTC
We play that every xmas as well! My nephew doesn't understand it yet but enjoys being in charge of the timer and throwing the dice :D

Trivial Pursuit is another one we play later on in the evening. My sister's partner is a genius though and wins every game, even though the rest of us all play as one team against him

Zarah, get a new set of questions :D He might have memorised the ones you have...... ;)

I haven't played board games for ages, no-one to play them with most of the time......though we did play a game called Mysteries of Old Peking.
- By zarah Date 04.12.07 19:48 UTC
I did wonder that but there must be thousands and thousands  I don't remember a single one of them from year to year

Can you buy new sets of questions then? I didn't know that. Maybe I've got time to memerise them before xmas day :D

Cranium is a really good game.  There is something there for everyone, singing, acting, drawing, modelling, you name it, you do it!!  Either that or Rapidough!  Great fun.

Play these all the time whenever we have visitors!

There are alot of interactive DVD games, i got 2 last christmas. 1 was general knowledge quiz with things to do or get thrown in for go measure, we played in teams and had a great laugh.  The other was a pop music DVD quiz but it's only good for the mature people among us!!!! My son who is 13 had'nt got a clue.

Play.com have a good selection and they deliver for free.

The game of life was a family favourite here for years, maybe a bit dated now. Scrabble is the top choice for me and my set probably needs replacing, then again there are so many card games that a pack of cards is usually on the go here too.

Buckaroo i'm 33 and that game still scares the life out of me :D :D :D

I love scrabble!!!
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 01.12.07 22:15 UTC
Buckaroo, my brother bought me this game in the December as he died in the January, so it is quite a memorable game for me.  Must admit it still makes me jump!

Now, it's one of the great disappointments of my life that I was never bought Buckaroo or Operation as a child. :( But you lot are adults and you still like it ... maybe I'll treat myself for this Christmas!

If you can find Labyrinth, that's brilliant too. (Although I always seem to lose. )

I know this suggesting isnt a bought one but I tell you our family has had many a fun Xmas day with the kids playing it..

We play hide the penny. The kids have to leave the room then the adult or one of them whoever is in charge ;-)  hides it, 10p or some reward for the finders. We have played it all day to keep them amused especially when visiting etc.

My mum used to play a game with us when we were little where she would bring in a tray with about 10 items on covered by a tea towel. She'd uncover them and give us about 20 seconds to try to memerise them - things like a button, coin, teaspoon etc. She'd then cover them back up, leave the room, remove an item and then bring the tray back in for us to try to work out what item was missing. We had great fun :D
- By Star [in] Date 04.12.07 20:00 UTC
Thanks for the ideas, please keep them coming. Not sure they would be too impressed with the penny game. they are all aged 18 to 28 so I would have to offer a lot more than 10p (LOL) unless of course they were somewhat tipsy :)
- By Tigger2 Date 05.12.07 06:01 UTC
Oh 18 to 28, then Riotous Applause would be good. It's my favourite game of all time, but I suggested cranium cadoo as I thought it was for kids too. Rioutous applause is fabulous fun, it is the same sort of board as trivial pursuit, but when you land on a particular colour you either have to play charades, waffle for 30 seconds about a subject on the card, guess what a word means and various other things. I'm not describing it well but it is great fun :)

edited to add: I found this description of it :D

"The objective of Riotous Applause is to reach and ascend the central podium and successfully complete a challenge nominated by an opposing team. The curtain drops when the first team achieves this."

Similar in respect to Trivial Pursuit or Cranium, required challenges must be performed when a space is landed upon. These categories include:
CHARADES of a film, play, book, song or proverb.
CROSS QUESTION - answering yes/no to questions in an animal/vegetable/mineral approach.
IMPROMPTU WAFFLE - must talk on a given topic for 30 seconds without deviation, hesitation or repetition.
WORD GAME - Similar to Call My Bluff. A word and four definitions are given. The team must guess the correct definition.
CLUE-NUNCIATION - Pretty much Taboo. Describe a word without using certain listed words.
FREE CHOICE - Choose from above.

Ah now Blue, our house is so untidy even or especially at Christmas that the last thing I would encourage here is looking for anything!!!!

:-D :-D just think how long it would take for them to find it :-)    Trying to think of places we have put it in the past,  on top of a door, on the ceiling light fitting etc   we have had many a good laugh at it.   We do the cold and hot clues. You can just imagine. I only have one child now 17 1/2 years old but When freinds or family was over with kids it was the first thing they would ask to do..( money makers ;-) )

We played the race night dvd last year and had so much fun ! We also played bingo...but because there were 15 of us we ran out of markers for the board so all ended up using chocolate buttons which eventually were eaton off the boards (by mischevious people) What a laugh - fun for all ages !
