Hi everyone,

I know from lurking that there are a few Malamute owners on here, and I was wondering if anyone has any experience of them smelling?! I know the Nordic breeds don't usually have that "doggy" smell, I show Samoyeds too and they don't smell of dog. However I have a Malamute bitch that seems to have quite a strong doggy smell! She went to the dog groomer's a couple of weeks ago and came back smelling lovely, but now she is starting to have that doggy smell again. It's not a problem as I love her all the same whatever she smells like, I'm just curious to know if there might be a way I could help her to smell better! She has a problem with her legs so we can't bath her very easily which is why she goes to the dog groomers, but I do groom her regularly. 

Any advice or stories would be much appreciated!! :-)

Does she go into a river or pond at all? We had this prolem with Hudson until we realised that he wasn't drying out properly after going into the river. We invested in a blaster and the problem has gone :)

Yep, as Mel says, if the undercoat stays damp say after a swim, the smell will stay with them like leaving wet washing in the machine! You need to make sure that she gets dry fully and as Mel has mentioned, you'll find a large number of Mal owners also invest in a blaster to dry them fully :) It's also great when they're blowing coat as it really gets the undercoat out when used on a dry coat :)

Thanks very much for your replies. I think we have hit the nail on the head here! Samoui loves paddling and goes in the river on every walk. In fact she's been swimming this afternoon :rolleyes: I'm going to have to invest in a blaster I think - a friend has one and once used it on one of the Samoyeds, it was wonderful. Maybe the OH will buy me one for Christmas! :-)
