Hi guys
I'm trying to reduce the weight on my boxer and have cut his food back and increased his exercise. This morning I woke up early exercised the bitches and then my male (fatty). Put the bitches in the kitchen as then are due in season and brought the male into the living room. I then went back to bed for an hour (big mistake) I was woke by the rustling of crips packets. My male had took it upon himself to open 4 packets of frisps

all that was left was a few crumbs on the rug! I feel so cruel reducing his food and now he's trying to pinched everything that is edible!

Norty boy :D
Try bulking his food up with vegs as if hs stomach is full then hopefully the hunger pangs will be reduced :)

Unless you switch to low cal food he'll just be a beggar.By the way you're not using Royal Canin Boxer 26 are you? I agreed to trial some on mine and wow did they put on weight. Trouble, as creatures of habit ( like me,) they like a full tummy, so cutting down food amount just makes them moochers and tea-leafs! I was always told that Wafcol low cal was good but I found it difficult to source so used Nutro.

Hi
I have a Cavalier that was hugely obese and had to go on a strict diet - I first used the Hills Prescription diet (TD) - mixture of their dry and tinned food - which is extremely high fibre so filled him up - then when I was halfway to goal with him I moved to Burns High Fibre Oat with a taster of Nature Diet Lite - the Burns was the highest fibre I could find that wasnt prescription and it has helped.
He is at target weight now but I'm still using the Burns/nature diet combo.
I hasten to add I'm not commenting on nutrition values before I induce lots of comments - I'm talking about satisfying a constantly hungry dog....

Great in one fat Cavvy but mega expensive to feed ( just chubby) boxers full time on it!

I second the Burns,I found it very hard to keep weight
on my boxer with this food and know lots of others have had the same experience. If I wanted to reduce his weight I would feed it again.

One of my Berns is prone to a little fat??

I feed Royal Canin and if I need to cut her down use the lite diet from them, she can have the same ammount but it has 30% less callories, and it really works, three or four weeks on that and she slims down nicely, I suppose I could leave her on it all the time but she would then start to need more as she lost the fat and she would end up eating more in quantity that she does now so I just use it occasionally.

Hi Reesy
Was it the LITE diet that he put the weight on with or the Boxer Specific diet? I find the Lite is very good but not breed specific if thats what you want.

Boxer 26. They do love it. But they don't half pile the weight on. They are back on the Beta now. Did trail the lite and have talked about it with the rep who i'm meeting with at LKA.

Toolz
The reason i'm now trying so hard to drop his weight is Arthur ainsworth judged him at South Wales Boxer Club and loved him, but didn't place him because of his weight. :-(

All of my girls were on RC for 2 months and they ALL gained quite a bit of weight, plus it gave them awful tear staining, so not a food I would personally recommend.
We've had them all back on the Burns Hi-Oats, bulked out with raw veg and they are slimming down nicely now and the tear staining has gone....thank goodness!!

Hi Reesy,
Arthur is pretty straight so I would have thought that your dog must have been pretty overweight not to be put up, probably a hot class or maybe he was carrying it over his neck and shoulders. Nobody likes 'puff-sleeves'

Your bang on. He's carrying over his neck and shoulders. Cut his food back, he's not happy.

add veg to his food in the form of raw or cooked carrot, give treats such as apple slices etc. I never give the low cal foods prefer giving less of a quality food and adding bulk in the form of low cal veg. I know all about big appetites and low food needs in my breed, especially after spaying.

Hi guys
He's much happier now. Bulked his food out with warm veg. Fingers crossed I can get some weight off him before 2 Dec :-)

Heh Reesy,
How are you coping with the 'gas' produced by the warm veg!! I travelled to the LKA once with another B owner who used to soak her dogs food in cabbage water, boy was I glad when that trip was over.
Mine have always been 'fragrant' from time to time but that was the pits.

To be honest I'll put up with it as long as it shifts the weight lol. I'll pm you an image of him.....if i can.
