I have been told by my obedience trainer not to walk my two dogs together.  I have a 3 month old Bichon and a 20 month old cross collie.  She says to walk them separately.  I don`t want to do this, i want to walk them both at the same time.  Can anyone advise.  Also, do i walk one in each hand or both on the same side? Thanks.

Your Bichon is far too young to cope with the amount of exercise your older dog needs, so yes, your trainer is right. They need separate walks for some time; they both need your individual attention.

Once your Bichon is older I'm sure you can happily walk them together.

Also if you collie x can cope with shorter walks then you can walk them together provided excercise is controlled!

Although it is easier to get a puppy to focus on you without another dog to distract.  Also lead training is easier!

When you can walk together - regarding one in each hand or same - it is your preference totally - what feels comfortable for you!

I think that the main reason given about not walking them together is because of the difference in age as well as the difference in breeds. Your collie-x will need an awful lot more stimulation and exercise than your BF. They will both still need your undivided attention in order to train them properly. In saying that, I have 4 dogs and exercise them all together, except when the bitches are in season, then the boy is kept well away ;) :D They vary in ages from 6 months to 9 years :) Oh, and I have 2 on one side and 2 on the other.
