Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / problems with toilet training

Hi there just looking for a little advice
My yougest Siberian husky has recently been taking a HUGE step back with regards to her toilet training.
She's 16 weeks old and for the last 2 weeks she keeps peeing in the house, right infront of me.
I went back to basics and we have been going into the garden every hour and lots of praise when she goes in the right place but it seems to be getting worse.
Its as though she waits for me to walk into the room then pee's at my feet.
Someone mentioned it could be a submissive thing but what other characteristics would come with this?
She's been to the vet and theres no problems there

any advice please???

I think firstly that your decision of going back to basics is absolutely on the right track :)  Secondly, I've personally always found bitches a little slower to fully house train than males (although no doubt some folks have had the reverse LOL).

You say she has been to the vet - was cystitis ruled out? a urine sample taken?

At just 16 weeks she is still very much a baby and it is possible that she has made the wrong association between praise and going outdoors.  Patience, 100% attention and equal measure of consistency are likely to be your best bet I'm afraid.

As to this possibly being a submissive behaviour - not IMO impossible but less probable unless of course she is showing other submissive behaviours such as going belly up on your approach or her urinating is more a release of a dribble of urine which can be a submissive sign too.  Have you concentrated on ignoring accidents and praising the odd times she gets things on the button?

yes the vet ruled out water infection, he said she was just being difficult ( so very helpful  )

I completely ignore accidents and I have never told her off when she's gone in the wrong place, i just take her to the right spot then lots and lots of praise when its in the right place.
As for her being submissive i really cant make it out!
She goes very low to the ground then sits up and pee's!
I really cant understand it :confused:

Often undesirable behaviours have a cause which can be traced if we really put our minds to it - a sort of "trigger" which leads to a lapse in normal behaviour or training.  It may be that she had a negative experience outside on a toilet trip of which you are unaware and that she therefore finds going indoors "safer" or that she has developed a submissive behaviour towards you for some obscure reason because again there may have been a negative association unnoticed by you ;)

As I've said patience, perseverance and going back to basics for as long as is needed are IMO your best options from the info you have provided.

Of course this does coincide with the recent spate of loud explosions due to fireworks going on for weeks on end, and this may be putting her off from feelign safe to go outside.

It does sound like it might be submissive/excitemetn urination.  I have only ever had one in my breed do this and she is the brashest creature going, but she so waants my Dad and his wifes approval and they just are not dog people (and she was quite full on) and the more she tried the more impatient they got with ehr greeting attempts and she used to pee on their feet.
