Hi there,
Could anyone give me details of any really nice dog friendly hotels, B&B's etc that would be a nice place to visit in December (cold!) as a birthday surprise for my partner.
Is there normally an age requirement for dogs going to hotels?
Thanks very much guys.

HI,
I know that lots of people on this board know of hotels.b&bs, but have you thought of cottage rental at all? You can get really nice places, with sea views or whatever you require, really quite cheap if you book quite late, and as long as its not aroud christmas that you are planing to go, you should have plenty to choose from... We have done this a couple of times in north devon and had lovely long weekends - highly recommended...
Just a thought.

Hi Alex,
That sounds like a nice idea. Devon is a favourite of ours and somewhere with a sea view would be an advantage. Is there a company that you used or can you recommend any locations?
Thanks

HI Nicky,
We've stayed in a lovely place called Morthoe, about 5 mins walk from a 3 mile beach at wollacombe, and you can walk over the point to Croyde - where there are some lovely pubs! Though to be honest the interiors aren't that special in the properties we have stayed at.
I dont know how many dogs or family you have, but you could try classic-cottages.co.uk, nationaltrust.co.uk and cant remeber the other one - but will post as soon as i do!
Most take dogs, though some have a maximum of 2, and some charge extra... but i have a stafford and no one has turned us down, so i dont think they are fussy on breed

Have just enquired about cottage holidays. We have 8 dogs and have got family to look after 6 of them but I have 2 I wouldn't leave behind. A 9 mth old rottweiler and a 5 year old labrador. After phoning the companies we have found that the lab is very welcome, however the rotti is not!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyone know of a company that would let us take Lottie the rottie with us. If she can't come then we're not going.

It doesn't seem far that people paint different breeds with the same brush. They don't know Lottie, just her breed. Narrow minded I suppose.
You must have a very busy house with eight dogs! What breeds do you have other than the Rottie and Labrador? I would love to just work with dogs all day!

I have 2 rottis aged 5 yrs and 9 mths. A lab x aged 9 yrs. Then labradors aged 5 yrs, 2 yrs, 1yr, 7mths, 18weeks and a litter with one pup aged 2 weeks who we will probably keep.
A very busy but great fun house.

I was searching for pet friendly cottages etc. and came across www.petfriendly.co.uk.
It might be worth you giving it a look as there are loads on there and so there must be one that isn't so stuck up on Rottie's.
Let me know how you get on.
Nicky
P.S Love to be a fly on the wall with all those woofers!

Hi,
We use www.country-holidays.co.uk and Recommended Cottages regularly.
Have recently had a break in Somerset with 4 dogs, including a 5 month old puppy - we weren't asked for ages or breeds, so should be no problem with the Rottie.
General rule is that if they don't specify number of dogs, they'll normally take 3. Any numbers beyond that and they'll check with the owner that they don't mind.

Hello Nicolla
I have a Rotti aged 5 and a cocker spaniel pup. We have stayed at Dawlish Sands holiday park on two occasions, Woolacombe Bay once and also a John Fowler holiday park in Coombe Martin. Dawlish Sands has a pet friendly pub although we didn't take Zac the Rottie inside. Coombe Martin has a pub in front of the small beach where Zac the Rottie was very welcome.
It has proved very difficult to find a holiday for Zac. I know that Forest holidays are happy to take up to three dogs in each log cabin and our next holiday is likely to be their site called Deerpark.
Hope this helps
Please let me know if you have any luck in finding any other holiday where Rottis are accepted.

Hi,
You could try k9 Travel Directory. They are a worldwide company but do list some British hotels.
Hope this helps !
