Hi my bitch was due for her season around now. She had an early season in aug/sept 07 so i took her to be mated, she had all the right signs- blood was straw coloured, swelling, tail moving to side, etc.. but after a few days we thought we must have missed her so we just thought ok next time, however since then she has had a second season and is on day 15 now.
I had 2 blood tests both shown ovulation was iminant,(from day 7/8) so took her to be mated on day 9 she is now on day 15, light coloured blood , tail moving to side, and still has the swelling, BUT the stud just is not really that interested in her. he has had a half hearted try but not to keen and comes off, the breeders are very experienced and have tried to see what there other dogs would be like around her and they are just the same....not interested at all, we have ben using the draminski too with very randon irregular results.. WHATS GOIN ON????
im getting very worried, as the split season, her blood loss is very minimal now does anyone think from this info she may have an ovuation problem? or any other problem or could she just be a late ovulator??
please please help
Thanks
Sarah

It could be that she is not actually ovulating, the hormone levels are building up to it and then she doesn't. did you continue the tests to show that ovulation had actually occurred? with her coming into season so soon that to me suggests no ovulation last time, and maybe even again this time if actual ovulation not confirmed. It should be possible to confirm with another blood test if she has in fact recently ovulated.
I have never found with my bitches that the amount of swelling (only the texture) or the colour of the discharge was any indication of readiness.
Have you thought of having her thyroid levels checked as under active thyroid is linked with infertility.

thx 4 your reply, would she have any other signs if it was the under active thyroid? as she is A1 in her self in everyway except the the ovulation or mating..
how long is the max she could go without ovulating? if there was not a problem??
im so unhappy and is such a shock...
any more help or advice would be greatly appreciated xx

The OP has had blood tests, but I think they haven't followed through to a positive test. As I said they can still do a test to see if ovulation has occurred, though of course it won't tell them when after the even but at least they will know if she is ovulating.
Some of the signs of Underactive thyroid can be quite subtle, but weight gain or difficulty keepign themslim, lethargy or not wanting to take excersise can be seen as just being mellow. Cota changes, in short coated breeds the coat can be a bit thin on the flanks, in double cote breeds the top coat can becoem sparser or change in texture and colour.

hi all,
thx 4 all ur replys but i have good news she ovulated and i had two matings on day 17 did not expect this as she was loosing ther bodily signs..so now im counting the days before i can have hert scanned xxxx
thx again xxxx

underactive thyroid also has a decrease in heart rate, so she would be sleeping around all the time.
weight gain, as well
patches on skin (may not be able to see them on a long coated breed)
Wired hair, loss of coat could also occur.
Hopefully you will have little puppies in two months. and it is not underactive thyroid
