I know that we had a debate on here last year, (I think, time flys so fast) of the lady who had the Huskey kennels and was being taken to court by her neighbours.

I know that the lady concerned did come on the site to put her side as much as she legally could to us and most of us did wish her well.

Having read the paper today and the court case is now over, regretably not to the outcome that was hoped for, I'm very saddened to read that the quoted 30 Huskey's the owner will probably have to now PTS.

I just wanted the lady concerned to know that I for one I'm really upset for her, I think it is tragic.

Thats awful, i wasn't a member when this was on here but was it because of noise etc?

That is dreadful if that happens - I do hope that there is a rescue society for the Huskies.  My paper didn't say this would happen.  I am sure they will try to rehome as many as possible if it is not possible to move.  As for keeping so many dogs - we all have to consider how our activities affect those around us which is why so many of us have been complaining about fireworks.  I am very conscious now that I have new neighbours without a dog that my dog does not go out in the garden late at night and bark as she will if she hears a rustle in the grass or sees the owl swoop over - even a plane in the sky!  As for 28 dogs - as my paper said - how do you keep them quiet!  Hope this lady finds a solution but I wouldn't like to be in her shoes.  Good luck to her.

I didn't read the details of this story - it only rings a teeny vague bell - but how awful for the owner.

Where were the kennels?  I'm guessing not far from residential areas for the case to have concluded this way?  Just thinking from the POV of boarding kennel setups - lots of barking but not taken to court for it.

I do hope the dogs can be saved - such a sad waste of life if they can't.

Huskies? Will they be difficult to re-home?
- By Nikita [gb] Date 07.11.07 21:07 UTC
I'd have thought so - plenty of people who'd want one, but I'd be willing to bet that only a fraction of those people would actually be suitable.  Quite a specialised breed and a lot of hard work.

According to the news item they lived in a semi-detached cottage.

Husky rescue are so stretched that they will no longer take non registered dogs, so I am sure 30 odd from a breeder are not going to be able to be found room, and I am sure the owner would rather PTS than have them face an uncertain future, there are worse things than death .

General rescues just haven't the expertise to home such a breed easily.

There is a Husky rescue. A group of breeders/owners set out to fill the gap left by the scaling down of the club rescue by forming the Siberian Husky Welfare Association :) They are extremely busy but I'm sure they will help in this case if needed as they have in many others this year.

I don't remember this story at all. Why on earth would you have 30 Huskies? TBH I think I'd probably complain as well if my neighbour had 30 Huskies all barking at once!

From what I can remember, though it is only from memory so may not be 100% accurate.  These people had been there for many years with no complaints, a neighbour moved and sold their house specifically telling the new owners about the kennels and obviously they could see for themselves that the Huskies were there.

They began complaining, then some offices or something, memory not so good, were built at the back of the Huskies with cars driving up and down at night and walking on gravel which was making the dogs bark.

So, circumstances around the huskies changed, they were asked by the council to bring the dogs in at night to avoid any howling or barking which occurred due to the 'offices' behind, but obviously they could not bring in that many Huskies. :-(

It is such a shame that these beautiful dogs are now suffering purely due to a change of surroundings.

I hope that others with Huskies and whom know this breed will offer to take some of these dogs and that they will not all end up being PTS, the poor owners have lost everything.

I feel very badly for the dogs,  I hope the dogs find appropriate home and do not suffer. :( I feel for the people too but 30 dogs in a residential area?? surely that's just asking for trouble. I would have spent that 200K on moving house instead of lawyers.

Well, yes. Or on soundproofing the kennels, which they said they couldn't afford to do.

Don't want to sound harsh as I do feel sorry for the lady in question, but have to confess that when this was discussed before I was also on the side of the fence of saying I wouldn't fancy living next door to it. I honestly can't imagine that 30 dogs only make between 4 and 8 minutes noise per day. With the best will in the world, 30 dogs in a residential area does seem excessive.

Very sad outcome all round really. I can't say i would be happy living next to someone with 30 dogs barking alot but those people will have to live with their decision to complain if these dogs are pts
