Does anyone know if it harms the dogs digestive system if you change their food reguarly?
ive had a load of free samples of different dried complete food come through from Hills/Purina/Autaky etc etc  so ive been trying them out when i feed her only of a night time though , breakfast she has the same thing every morning , JWB dried and raw mince.

It can cause problems but it all depends on the dog and how sensitive the dog digestive system is :)

I have had Labs that can tollerate any food and some that have been very sensitive to certains foods and so had to stick to one type to make sure they didn't had dodgy tummies.

My girls now have a very varied raw diet and have wonderful solid compact poos which I am more than pleased t pick up :D

I only feed one on complete and when we win food or get free samples I just mix it in with the rest of the sack of food.  Ive always fed mine different completes and they have never had a problem :)

I know that conventional wisdom always says to do a swap between different foods over a period of a week or so, but I have always fed my dogs a variety of foods and could swap between dried complete, tinned, packet (Forthglade type), real meat and offal with veggies and bones - without any sort of tummy upsets at all.  Maybe because I tend to feed them from weaning on a variety of foods?

Why would it harm their digestive system? The only dogs it would cause a slight upset to would be those poor sods who have got nothing but the same food everyday for all of their lives :( Their digestive ability would be so limited and only used to digesting that one food that any change would probably be a shock to the system..
We humans eat a variety of different foods daily, not many people have the same dinner every night, and it should be no different for our pets IMHO.

I have fed my dogs, all of them,a variety of different foods from the day i bring them home, and they have all had cast iron stomachs.Variety IS the spice of life and a varied diet ensures they are getting everything they need, both physically and mentally(boredom factor of eating the same food for every meal).

This probably more info than you wanted :p :D But for me,i think it is so very important that a variety of different foods are fed through out the dogs life.

Ive asked this question on another bit of this site but raw chicken legs/drumsticks? r they ok to give to them? Can they eat the bone aswell?

Yes - raw chicken bones, carcases - must be raw.  Mine all used to have chicken wings for breakfast every day - until we found out that Tanzi is allergic to chicken!
