Topic Dog Boards / Health / Think Milos Anemia Is back. Positive vibes Please
- By bevb [gb] Date 17.10.07 20:59 UTC
I am taking him to the vets in the morning for a blood test as his gums have gone very white again. This time though I am almost certain I know what could be causing it and will be running it past the vet.
I believe he has a stomach ulcer. A few things have led me to this conclusion and they are the fact he has to have 4-5 small meals a day otherwise he gets very acidy and uncomfortable and brings up bile. Then last time he was anemic he had weekly blood tests while on Iron tablets but didn't improve, then I changed his diet to Nature Diet Sensitive from a dried wheat gluten free one and within a week his blood was back to normal and his energy levels back, he has stayed normal till this last week when I couldn't get hold of the sensitive gold variety and tried him on others, he has been bringing up bile again during the night, so a lot of acid accumulating again and looking uncomfortable, huis energy levels have dropped and he is very pale.
I may be wrong but I definatly think it worth putting to the vet to see what he thinks.
Please send positive thoughts for him tomorrow, poor lad has been through so much with this and is terrified of the vets after all the blood tests he has had to have.

Thinking very positive thoughts :p
I think you're right about what's causing the anemia, by the way.
Good luck,
Karen

if you are having problems getting ND sensitive, give them call, they can usually courier food to most of the UK and i am sure would be happy to help

Thanks everyone, Milos blood test was borderline so vet thinks it more than likely had dropped while he couldn't have the ND sensitive, but as he had just got back on it it was coming back up up again.
He thinks I am right on the stomach ulcer and has given me Zantac to give him twice a day.  Poor little Milo though hates the stuff and as soon as I pick up the bottle and syringe he runs and hides in a corner shaking LOL.
PAH let me swap the rest of the other nature diet flavours I had for the sensitive gold they had come in today.
It is a bit of a worry though to think that there may be times its unavailable.  Apparently the ND factory was shut and someone who has it delivered by direct order couldn't get hers either.
