Topic Dog Boards / General / Lazy dog....

I am posting on her for a very dear friend of mine who is looking to get a dog. She is looking for a dog that isn't too excitable and one that doesn't need lots and lots of walks. She is also looking for a short haired breed....

Money isn't a problem, they don't have any other pets and size doesn'tmatter either but they do have a little boy aged 4 so a breed that is good with children is essential...

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Sounds like an ideal home for a rescue greyhound to me ...

I did talk to them about greyhounds last night as there is a rescue near where they live but they weren't keen on taking a rescue dog the husband had a bad experience with a rescue dog when he was younger and will only go for a puppy.

To be honest any puppy they get will not be lazy or esy for two years.  Maybe a Cat.

Sorry that was just me being funny posting "lazy" dog, they aren't just after a couch potato but they couldn't do hours of walking a day!

OH had a whippet in the past and said it was a great family dog, didn't need too much exercise and was good with all of them (they were kids at the time).  Myself as a child we had a cross lab and she was the perfect family pet.  Did whatever we did.  No grooming, no trouble, no fuss.  I suppose you can't guarantee that any dog you get will be the nature that anyone else has had :)  Hope you find what you want.

If they really don't want a rescue greyhound then a whippet or greyhound puppy would possibly fit the bill. They're both very clean, laid back comfort loving breeds...although as Barbara has said even a greyhound puppy will have mad turns and will chew, have crazy half hours etc :)

Thanks I will pass all your recommendations on. Our previous dog was a staffie and she was the laziest dog ever she loved nothing more than to curl up on the sofa with me and insisted on being carried to bed:eek: But i don't think this is the breed standard, like you say each dog is individual. What about a Bulldog? I don't know anything about them but i have heard that they don't need hours of exercise...
