Would anybody know where I can find (if there is one)a list of suitable microchips for the pet passport?
I mean a list of chips that will be readible on an entry to UK without me having to have my own reader...

I know Defra page says:
"Your pet must first be fitted with a microchip to identify it. We do not specify a particular type or brand of microchip to be used but, in Europe, ISO (International Standards Organisation) Standard microchips meeting specifications 11784 or Annex A of ISO Standard 11785 are generally used"
So are these readible with the scanners they have?

The puppies will be chipped end of this week so I'm trying to find out if the chip the whole litter gets will be ok.
As if it is not there is no point in putting one in the puppy I have chosen.

I would have thought your Vet or Defra would be the best people to ask? I think you will find that most European Vets use the same standard chips and they are accepted at our ports.

Pet ID
Bayer(AKA Tracer)
Pet Detect
AllFlex
Peddymark
Petcode
Datamars
Eezytrak
Jecta

Our imported boy came with an American chip and our readers read it fine, but the pup I had chipped that went to USA can't be read over there as they ahven't got readers that read as many wavelenghts as the ones used here in Europe now.

So as long as it is an ISO chip it shoudl be able to be read.

Thanks. I shall try to find out if it is an ISO chip they use.
Not all vets seem to know the rules/regulations when it comes to importing to UK.
I have had a vet telling me you can now import without the process of jabs/bloodtests!

As far as i am aware all teh chips used in the UK are ISO chips, so shoudl be no problem, it is only if the dog is being chipped abroad you need to make sure that they are.

The US chips are 10 digit which is what causes the problem with ISO chips which have 15 digits. It's the US 10 digit readers that cannot read the ISO chips

Don't remember how many digits our boys US chip has, but it has letters as well as numbers.
