Topic Dog Boards / General / worming, flea treatment and vaccinations too close together

I just picked up a leaflet from the pet shop ''James Wellbeloved Guide to the purchase & ownership of a puppy''
I was horrified to read it said ''DO NOT worm your puppy or use flea treatment on your puppy within 3 weeks of the vaccination - before or after.  Too many chemicals at one time may harm your puppy's long term health, and could affect its immune system.
I wormed my bitches pups at 2, 4, 6, 8, weeks, did i do wrong by doing this?

You have wormed them just as I would

I can understand not using a spot flea treatment for about a week after vaccination just in case the hole hasnt healed but not to do anything for 3 weeks seems like a long time.  I personally try to stagger things a bit just in a case they feel a bit poorly after one thing but only by a few days to a week.

If you didnt worm for 3 weeks before and after a vaccination that would basically mean missing out worming treatment for that month and a half!!!

If it did affect long term health and the immune system we would have a lot more sick dogs by now.  Silly leaflet.

But then they do say we now see lot more immune related illnesses than in the past...
and probably do stick so may more chemicals in our doga than they used to.
Just a thought...
I have never heard that 3 week rule before, actually I believe with our last puppy we were told to worm her before her first vaccination at 12 weeks...
Edited to say I would not want to use flea treatment on a young puppy like that anyway, do people use them on little puppies??

My girl is now a year old and has never had a treatment for fleas put on her or had fleas!
But then she is not in UK yet so maybe I will change my ways here if there are more fleas around...
She also mixes with dogs everyday so it is not because she has no contact with other animals.

Our breeder advised us not to worm and vaccinate together, she said to leave a week in between.
We don't flea our dogs either, just give them garlic in their food occasionally and we don't have a flea problem:-)
