Can some please explain the different titles that you will find on a pedigree ??? Our Yanks pedigree shows the following:-

Ch
Sh Ch
Am Ch
Sh Ch Am Ch
Ch Am Ch

I understand That Am Ch is American Champion and Sh Ch is show champion but what is the difference between a Ch & Sh Ch, being very new to the showing world I do find it a bit confusing
Many Thanks
Mike

Show Champion means it's won the minimum 3 CC's in the showring from 3 different judges.

Champion has the same, minimum 3 CC's but it also has a working award (To show it can work as a gundog) so it entitles it to drop the Show part - in gundogs a Ch. is preferable to a Sh.Ch.

a ch without the sh infront is a full champion, in other words the dog is a show champion and a working champion.

Only gundog breeds and some other breeds have to also prove their working ability to become a full champion, other breeds just become champions.  A dog can have many titles from different countries so Am (america) Aus (australian) Can (canadian) Ir (Irish) Int (international) etc etc etc etc

That is so in the UK, but in the US a plain show champion will be shown as champion, but in UK it is called a sh ch unless it gains awards at field trials or gets a show gundog working certificate.

I knew about the three CC's my confusion came with the difference between the Ch & Sh Ch which you have answered and many thanks for that, so as far as the Sc Ch Am Ch before the kennel name that she has a few times in her pedigree I take it that means the dog became a champion in the states then was imported into the uk where it became a show champion or would both titles be won in the states.
Sorry for being a bit dull
Mike

Well no, it isn't a working Champion in any way (that would be a Field Trial Champion -FTCh for a gundog) it just has passed the show gundog working test proving it CAN work.

If a gundog was a Sh Ch and a Ft Ch then it would be a Dual Ch - and they are very rare. :-) Am I muddying the waters? :-)
