Topic Dog Boards / Showing / World Show - Stockholm

Anyone going to the World Show in Stockholm next week?

We were going, with our Estrela, but the cost to get her out there was astranomical.  Because of their stupid rabies laws, she had to fly out, rather than drive, but to keep costs down we were driving her home.  The plan, was for me and the dog to fly out, mum and her partner to drive up and pick us up.  Me fly home, and them drive home with the dog!  Sounds fairly simple right?

Well, first of all, we thought she needed an extra large vari kennel, the cost of that ONE WAY was £720.  That was ok, an upcoming stud fee would cover that (just)!!!.  Then after buying the crate (unseen as we could not find any to try her in), she touched the top!  The airline was no way going to accept it.  When we enquired as to the cost of the giant crate... the price (ONE WAY) went up to £1043.00!!!  When you added that to the cost of driving up and back (diesel, hotels etc), the cost of the cabin, food etc while we were there, ferries etc, it came to approximately £3000!!!

There is no way we could justify spending that much to take one dog to the World Show!  Needless to say we were peeved, as she is entered in 3 shows over there, but at least I entered SWKA 'just in case' as I know how our luck runs! LOLOL!

Anyway..... I want to wish everyone who is going to the World show a very safe trip, enjoy the show, and good luck if you are taking dogs!!!  I hope you don't have any trouble getting in!!!  (Why do they have to have 4 months inbetween the rabies shot and the titre test when everyone else is happy with one month!! URGH!!!!).

We will be thinking of you all having a great time!! :)

A few CDers are off to Stockholm, myself included. I am not sure who is exhibiting but I am definitely just spectating.
Looking forward to it immensely and have entered SWKA as well. At the time this seemed like a great plan as I get back from Stockholm on Friday but have since booked a day trip to see the pup in Budapest on the Saturday which involves a 21 hour day, so if I get to Usk I may look a little tired! :-)

We're going -with a dog. :) Leaving on Monday. We found it would be far too expensive to fly so we're driving and look at it like a holiday. It will take us 5 hours to drive down to Harwich, then 8 hours ferry overnight when we can all get a sleep. Tuesday we arrive in Holland 7.45 am and will drive through Holland, Germany and Denmark, then take the bridge over to Sweden and will stay over with a friend in Southern Sweden for the night. This part of the journey should take 10-12 hours. The following day we have a 6 hour drive up to Stockholm (or rather Sundbyberg) where we shall stay with my mum. Then one day's rest with plenty of dog walks (let's hope it doesn't rain) before we're in the ring on Friday. Then one more day of rest, then were setting off back home again on the Sunday, arriving Tuesday. All in all, with ferry, toll bridges and petrol included, but not including the pets passport and those costs, it will have cost us roughly £600. 2 people and one dog.

BTW the Swedish rabies rules are about to be changed and they really pushed for it to be done in time for the show but alas it wasn't possible -but it is going to happen.

Tomorrow we're off to the vet for the worming for Sweden so it's all getting close now. :)

We were not flying originally, too expensive, but when we found out about the 4 month rule, we had no choice!  You can actually enter Sweden from the UK direct (flying) without a rabies shot, but if you go through another country, you must have the 4 mths inbetween the rabies shot and the titre test!  When we found this out, it was already past that 4 months!  We have the pet passport (with the usual 1 month between rabies shot and titre test), and show abroad quite often, but it was no good for Sweden with driving in as they woudln't accept it! :0(  So, we looked into flying, that was definitely too expensive, so now we are not going!

I hope you have a fanastic time, and go fly the British flag!! :)

Good luck on getting back to Usk for SWKA!! LOLOLOL!  I don't doubt you will be tired..... you may want to forego SWKA, I know I would if I could be in Sweden!! :)

you must have the 4 mths inbetween the rabies shot and the titre test!  When we found this out, it was already past that 4 months!

We simply did 2 blood tests. The UK one after 30+ days and the Swedish one after 120+ days. The rule says more than 120 days, it can be as much as 364 days later. :)

Can't decide whether I'm flying the flag for Sweden or England, LOL!! (AS a Swede who has lived in England for 20 years.) Although the dog is English!
- By phoenix1 Date 26.06.08 19:11 UTC
We tried that, the second test, but as she is on a 3 year rabies vaccine, and was already 18 months through it, her result came back as 0.1, which is fine for the protection that is needed (apparently it starts to drop after it has peaked at 1 month after), but not good enough for the Swedish laws, and it was too late to do the rabies shot again by then! :0(

I am very glad you got it sorted though, we are going to Liege instead now straight from East of England!

Hahahaha, I see your predicament!!  We have a Dutch dog, living in Wales with English people and we were taking her to Sweden!!  Hmmmmmm!!!  Ok, we would just stick to flying the British flag!! :)

Good luck whichever country you are with! :)

I'm going to watch my friend, who is now resident in Sweden, exhibit her elkhounds and vallhunds. We should be there Friday until Monday.  I'm leaving my own dogs with my husband, who hates shows.

I am expecting at least one of you going on this thread to take photos of all the Large Munsterlanders there - all 7 (?) of them and get their entry details too, please pretty please!
- By KateM Date 27.06.08 09:31 UTC
We did this with one of ours who was going, everything was booked and paid for, but then he failed the 2nd blood test by 0.1 so he's staying home and his owner is off on her own to watch.

There are 16 (all female!) of us going from the same breed, to spectate. Majority leave on Monday and 4 of us on Thursday. Cant wait.

There is a large crowd of Beardie folk going over, including me (mostly spectating, but some exhibiting dogs residing in Sweden), there is a large BBQ planned (started off as a small get together!) for the Friday evening, so really looking forward to it.
