Topic Dog Boards / Showing / total humiliation :(
- By suz1985 [gb] Date 22.06.08 08:59 UTC
had the worst day ever yesterday, got up at 4am to leave for blackpool second ever champ show, and 2 out of 3 champ shows im doing this year, rest are open, made it in plenty of time, went to get my catalogue and looked in to see i had put my dogs name instead of kennel name!!!! aaarrgghhhh im so dim, i entered the show the night before the online entries shut at 11.30pm, so thats my excuse.
anyways, went up to steward and explained, he said i had to go to secretary and get it changed. i said to him im in minor puppy, which was starting in less than 10minutes, could i show then change it, he said no but dont worry we'll wait for you for a few minutes if you are late, so i left my dog with my breeder, ran like h*ll to sec tent, stood in queue for ages, managed to change it, got my slip, ran back, and show had started, it was exactly 9am, so steward hadnt waited. i ran in, took my pup ( he wont stand for anyone else) was so flustered forgot my bait, he stood lovely thank goodness, but then i ran the wrong way around the ring, done a back to front triangle. was mortified. the judge made me go again, i was terrible, pup was ok, and then stood him again. we got 2nd out of 2, at least she placed me. i was mortified leaving ring, i had missed the other pup going around so basically entered ring, and had to stand my pup straight away, felt it was over in seconds, and almost a wasted journey. at least pup was good, just me holding him back!
has anyone else got silly stories that may make me feel better?
- By Melodysk [gb] Date 22.06.08 09:01 UTC
I, like many others I suspect, have been yanked base over apex in the middle of a ring :) Plus having to stand and watch your fabulously turned out, gorgeously well behaved mutt suddenly decide that in front of the judge is an ideal place to do a large smelly dump

:)

My bitch, at her first show a couple of years ago (WELKS, under a breed specialist  ;-) ) decided she was zebedee off magic roundabout :-) She bounced her way around the ring, no matter what I did. Needless to say she didn't get placed, but we all had a laugh (at my expense, of course :-D ) She's a lot better nowadays. At least all 4 feet stay on the ground :-)

At SKC they have the large poles in the rings holding the tents up, i ran head first into one while doing a circuit if the ring with my girl, i fell flat as you can imagine and she finished the circuit on her her own and went back to the judge.
Everyone fell about laughing but he did give my girl the RCC that day , so it was well woth the humiliation.

sorry, but i still don't think that beats my humiliation as kid (about 12-14 year old) being pulled out of the ring (under the judges table) by a Bernese!

Funnily enough this was SKC as well!
- By suz1985 [gb] Date 22.06.08 11:02 UTC
thanks peanuts, that made me laugh! dont feel as silly now. still so annoyed at myself, both for entry form fillinf in wrongly and for running wrong way around, i could have pulled my hair out. i did apologise to judge at end as i was leaving and tried to explain why i was so all over the place and hopefully she didnt think i was a complete idiot!
- By Nova Date 22.06.08 11:27 UTC
Oh we have all done it at some time and some of is do it all the time :-) remember when I first started to wear bifocal glasses I did not notice the blue rope between our ring and the next and ran straight through stopping only when retained by the rope straining on it's teather, stoped and returned sham faced to the judge who said try again please and this time in your own ring.

Also had truck with those posts in the ring, I avoided it but went the oppisite side to my bitch and we met face to face the other side of the pole.
- By ice_queen Date 22.06.08 11:58 UTC
Oh I did a triangle the wrong way round once in handling so I lost....Compleatly!

I've ran into poles, ringtape, cones (that was last weekend)

I've made so many mistakes in the past I just laugh them off now!  One thing I've never made a mistake on is an entry form....I've never filled one in!!!!! :-D  But my mum has made some mistakes, wrong DOB for dogs, wrong parentage, wrong classes... LOL
- By Nova Date 22.06.08 12:11 UTC
Some manage wrong breed :-O
- By Polly [gb] Date 22.06.08 12:17 UTC
A friend of mine some years ago got to Crufts to find he had taken the wrong dogs! Not only were they not the dogs named on the entry form they weren't even the same breed! He had taken his flatcoats but had entered with his labradors, not the flatcoats. lol

I went to a show once and got there then panicked as I realised the dog was not in the car. Imagining she might have got left somewhere I had to turn right back round and drive all the way home. When I got there she was still sitting patiently in the garden by the show bag waiting. By then it was too late to go back to the show so we went for a long walk across the fields instead. :-D

> Some manage wrong breed

Sorry jackie....what does that mean? :)
- By Nova Date 22.06.08 12:42 UTC
Ice Queen said that her Mum had made mistakes on the entry form and I added some enter the wrong breed.
- By Crespin Date 22.06.08 13:01 UTC
lol, some of these are real funny!

My mistakes:
I have forgotten to even put the breed on the entry form (show secretary called me up, going "Um what breed are your dogs?" So embarassing!)

My first showing experience, I must have looked like a dip!  Took Casie in, the group, and even though I had been practicing at the hotel, and at home for weeks, totally messed her up.  I made a min pin, look like an italian greyhound!  When stacking her, I pushed up from under her belly for some reason, so she had a curved back, instead of a straight topline.

I have had to fill out entry forms a few times, when I mix up which info goes with which dog.

I have bumped into the table in the middle of the ring, all sorts of silly little things.

Those kinda things, put it back into perspective though.  Remind me, that I am there for a day with my dog, hoping for a placement, but at the end of the day, my dogs are the best (if not only just in my eyes!)

I did hear a story that 2 lovely people left in plenty of time from Scotland to go to Crufts, when about an hour away from the NEC they were remarking on how quiet and what a poppet their dog had been all the way there, well it WAS early!!! They stopped and thought they had better check and each one had thought the other had loaded said dog in car....No dog!!! Left in kitchen.....

after a really scary day this thread is making me laugh again.

1st leo decided to p on the judge in the ring....next show he p'd on me, OH videod it and still to this day delights in showing people.

latest leo has had 2 'dumps' at champ shows, 1st one obviously made him move much better as he won a hard PG class. 2nd time won RBD but critique said ''rather untidy out and back''. Hope he was talking about the dogs movement not his ''movement'' lol.

I've had many

I ran in to the tape at the edge of a ring whilst looking at what the judge was doing and flipped right over the top ended up showing every one my lovely filly knickers .. mmm was soo embarresed.

My dog  was in puppy his last class puppy class.. morning started ok got up pleantly of time took the dogs up to the horses for morning walk, puppy decides to have his own walk and after waiting for him for 2 hours to come home we decided to take the older bitch to the show, leaving Dad to wait in for naughty puppy... 20 mins after leaving he arrives on doorstep.. he'd been in the hay so wasn't tired.

Dad decided to drive to the show, was Windsor Champ 2002.. ques where horrendous so he decided to run from around the corner with the dog, we waited at entrance to get him in, it was 9:35 when we got to the ring and puppy dog had been and they were on Junior!!! So horrible, secritary let us go in open and he got a 5th out of 10!! we were really pleased as he was only 11 months old..

He slept all day on the bench never herd a peep out of him,... i've learnt - dogs that are going to the show do NOT get let off leads on morning walkies!!!
- By sam Date 22.06.08 18:46 UTC
dont worry....the very 1st show i ever went to, a large open show.....my bitch and i were equally nervous and she did a big poo in the ring!!! I just wanted to run out and die but my mum was ringside, ran in and picked it up while i stood paralysed with embarassment and then the judge gave us a 2nd!! :)
- By peaches1 [gb] Date 22.06.08 18:59 UTC
I was once sat ringside with my girl watching the judging and eating a lovely bacon and sausage baguette for my breakfast when she decided it would be great fun to try and enter the ring and play with one of her travelling companions! I was pulled straight off my chair, flat on my face and my baguette flew straight into the ring to be hoovered up by several delighted goldens who were more than pleased with the whole incident! I was so livid because i had really been enjoying my sarnie and everyone thought it was highly hilarious! Now i must admit, i do too, but not at that moment in time!!!!!

My cringe was years ago, My poodle had won the group and for BIS they were announcing each group winner and you came into the ring and went round yourself - when they announced utility group winner was the miniature poodle we duly ran into the ring and started to go round when I then slipped and did the whole ice skating ballerina thing, waving my arms and legs in the air trying to keep my balance, the whole place erupted with laughter :D I managed not to hit the floor in a crumpled heap but my dignity was sadly left way behind!!  Although we did win RBIS - maybe we got the sympathy vote ;D

In all the winds at B/pool today...an exhibitor was rushing to get away with her Rotti bitch...  the girl had to stop for a pee...(the dog , not the human)  unfortunately  the wind caught  it , and blew a nice spray of pee into the face of the woman following her ,  gave a little light relief to an otherwise not to nice a day.
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 23.06.08 20:23 UTC
Don't feel bad, we've all done silly things! I've turned up at the show with the right dog at least and the crate and lead, but no show bag, so no ringclips, brushes, combs, treats, etc etc - very embarrassing. And I remember my friend walking straight into the BIS judge while moving her dog as she was watching the dog and not the judge! :-)

> i had put my dogs name instead of kennel name!!!!

easily done online, when I first registered with dog.biz I got half way through and realised I had put the dogs pet name so luckily got to go back and change it - I wonder why the secretary didnt notice it though, unless your dog has some great long pet name you would have thought the secretary would have realised and given you a call.

Old friends of ours who had Chihuahua's many years ago travelled all the way to Scotland and thought exactly the same!!  I have gone to a show the day after it was on and wondered why there were only a couple of cars with dog stickers on!
- By ClaireyS Date 24.06.08 09:36 UTC
I did a 2 hour drive to a show only to realise I was a day early, I had an agility training day the following day so didnt go back !!

I was at a show many years ago and needed to go to the loo. The loos were a long wooden building divided into 6, with 6 doors set into the front part. I was sitting on the loo and there was an almighty crash and the whole of the front of the building fell over. Of course everybody turned to look. Another time, I had already been in one class and in my next class I was with the seen dogs. I walked into the ring and stood with the seen dogs but unbeknown to me, my dog had slipped out of her collar and was sitting under the chair by the side of the ring. I was busy watching the new dogs in the class and assessing the opposition and stood for several minutes with an empty lead dangling from my hand before somebody kindly pointed out that I didn't actually have my dog with me.

Years ago I took 2 pups to the LKA. One Rott and a GSD. I was stood talking to friends at the side of the GSD ring, My daughter was in the ring showing the GSD puppy. All of a sudden this Rottie pup was running round the ring trying to play with all the dogs and judging had to be stopped while someone caught the pup, I stood there wondering who it belonged to till I saw my daughter frantically pointing at me. When I looked down there was just a collar and lead at the side of me. I collected my puppy with a very red face.
More recently I was in the ring with my large male who decided he had had enough and just as the judge was coming down the line, dragged me out of the ring and into someone elses soft crate, we had to tip it up to get him out. Again a very red face as we returned to the ring where the judge was waiting with a look on his face that said it all.

Just remembered a few years ago I set out to go to Leeds but drove to Stafford, I was within 5 minuets of Stafford when I realised so I turned round and drove home, the beginning of my true senior moments I fear.

Must say the longer this thread runs the more I remember the idiotic things I have done like presenting my dog in the challenge with a antibark collar on
- By phoenix1 Date 24.06.08 20:12 UTC
I remember years ago, when SWKA was at Sofia Gardens in Cardiff, friends of ours were coming to the show from Southampton area and were  meeting us at the camp site, but there was no sign of them the evening before, late at night, the following morning...... then they turned up.... must have been in time for judging, JUST (a long time ago... i was very young... so not a great memory!!). The bit I do remember is them saying.... "When we got to Gretna Green we realised we had gone the wrong way!"

My own very embarassing moment was actually at an Obedience show (I think it must have been an exemption show with obedience).  I was 8 yrs old, and was doing obedience with my lurcher, Harry.  Well, Harry didn't always do what I wanted, particularly when it came to the retrieve!  On this day, I sent him to retrieve the article, so he wandered around the ring, ignored me completely, and walked up to the judges table and Pee'd in the judges handbag!!!  As if that wasn't bad enough, being obedience, he earned us an instant Disqualification too!

Needless to say.... embarassed was an understatement!!!  Of course, mum thought it was hysterical! LOLOLOL!

Oh yes, my friend once let Henry out to get him ready for me but didn't realise he had no collar on, he shot out like a bullet but most uncharacteristically, rather than heading for the nearest bitch, arrived suddenly at my feet where I was showing Ellie in the previous class! :-D
