will it affect showing my dog after she had to have a minor op, she had to have a 6 cm stick removed from her nose. while she was sedated. so they shaved a small amount of fur of one of her front legs? next show at the end of month
she is fine and luckly caused very little damage internally
It's should be fine and would have mostly grown back by then. My poor little lad had to have a spinal tap back in March and they shaved a large square out of the back of head. Bless him it still hasn't fully grown back but he is on steriods so I think that has affected it. Unfortunatley he won't ever make a show dog now which is a shame as he show promise as a baby but some things just aren't meant to be.
Certainly shouldn't make a difference. My Jozi won her first Cc at a club show with a piece shaved out of her leg when she had been put out for Hip scoring. It is clearly visible in the photo I have.
Shouldn't make a difference. However, can I make a suggestion. I always tell my Vet not to shave. They have it on my records and my dogs are never shaved for ops. I even had one bitch that was having a small cyst removed off her back. He just shaved the cyst itself and then plastered the fur back with surgical spirit and removed the cyst. You couldn't see the shaved area at all when the fur fell back over it. My Vet always seems to go the extra mile!! However, don't get me wrong. If is was a big op then I wouldn't care as long as my dog was okay.
I agree Alison I also tell my vet not to shave they really can work around it if you persist a shaved area in my breed would take forever to re-grow plus the texture of the coat would be different .
My Champion Beardie had to be spayed as an emergency, four weeks later fully recovered & with a bald patch shaved off her front leg & a tiny amount of belly hair removed, she went BIS @ a local Open Show.
You couldn't see the bald patch on her leg or on her belly
My vet never shaves except in an emergency, says he would not employ a vet that could not find a vein with the coat left on. They do shave when operating though and for hygiene sake I don't mind that.
i can find a vein with the hair left on, jugular and cephalic, but where i work for hygiene levels, we always clip a small amount of hair to introduce an intravenous catheter, which are always put in if dog on fluids or needing anaesthetised. the skin needs a clean beforehand.
