Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Ringcraft Northern Ireland?
- By jackson [gb] Date 05.04.08 13:26 UTC
We are moving to Northern Ireland at the end of the month, and I would like to start some ringcraft classes with my new puppy straight away really, well once she is vacc'ed.

Does anyoen have any details? We will be in County Down. I am a total newby to showing, so somewhere nice and friendly would be helpful! I am terrified!

I live in Northern Ireland (Belfast...but from Co. Down originally).  The only info I can find on ringcraft is to contact Mr Jackie Stubbs of the Belfast Dog Show Society for details of classes http://www.belfastdogshowsociety.co.uk T 028 9022 9127, M 07729 638 907.

Sorry, don't know any more about it than that.

Are you moving to Holywood, by any chance?
- By jackson [gb] Date 05.04.08 15:13 UTC
hi!

thanks for that. Almost right, but moving to Ballykinler, not Hollywood. It's beautiful there!
- By ShaynLola Date 05.04.08 15:22 UTC
Ah yes, much nicer :-)

If you happen to find a class, I'd be interested to hear about your experience as I'll be looking for one myself in the not-too-distant-future (hopefully!!).

There is a fairly good class in Antrim Every Wednesday night starting at 7:30
Its easy enough to find and the people seem to be friendly enough. I've been to a few before my dog was injured and have just last week started to go again.  They all remembered us and made us feel welcome.

If you want directions PM me

As you live in Belfast...Antrim shouldn't be too far a trek....just off the Motorway on the exit before the hospital....easy peasy...

That sounds good Freewayz.  Can you PM me with directions and I might go and check it out :-)

Yes the one in Antrim Ballyrobert on Wednesday is very good and the people are really friendly.  I'm told their is also ringcraft in Newtownards, Hollywood, Redburn and also Parkgate which is also Antrim.  Theirs actually that many ringcraft class's going on in the North that when your in the know you could probably get to one every evening of the week   I'm also knew to showing and asked the guy from Belfast Dog and Show society if he knew of any ringcraft class's and he never got back to me.  I ended up asking a lovely lady who is a secretary of a show (also judges) I entered and it was she who helped me.

I know there is a training club at Redburn, Holywood as I am a member but I am not aware of there being a ringcraft class there and have never heard it mentioned.  I'd be grateful for further details of it and the one in Newtownards if you have them, please...or who I could contact to get them?  Many thanks.

Will be day or two before I can get back to you as I've e-mailed for directions.  I'm from Ballymena so don't frequent any from that side of Belfast.

Newtownards, take road at side of Ards Shopping centre and at bottom of this
short road scout hall is facing you (Wednesday Night)

Bangor turn right at roundabout at railway station, drive past police station, follow road round and turn up
the road at side of Cineplex to old building, class is at right hand side (Monday Night)

For those at the other side of Belfast:

There is also a class on Wed in Ballyrobert Orange Hall (Ballyclaire)  You would come off M2 at J5  then take A57 to Ballyclare but
take  B56 to Ballyrobert (Wednesday night about 7.30pm start).

Coleraine Club have match once a month at Ballymoney community centre - Tuesday nights (I can give dates if anyone is interested).

Ballymena and District Canine Fanciers have ring craft second Monday of each month and Match last monday of each month in Harryville community centre Ballymena - 8pm start.

I'll get back about the Redburn one.

You should be able to google the Cineplex, ballyrobert and the shopping centre for exact directions.

Just watch also as most take a couple of months off in the summer when the number of shows are high.

Hope this helps.

Just found directions for Coleraine Club ringcraft and match.  I know it won't help you but it may help some onelse who reads this string.

Its in Ballymoney Community Centre, Edward Street, Ballymoney, starting at 7.00 pm.

There is handling class first followeed by a match.

If you are coming from Ballymena direction at the firts roundabout turn left signed Ballymoney.
Follow this road until the next roundabout and turn right, go past the Super value (on your right) to the next mini roundabout and go straight on. Go past the Flash in the Pan Chip shop and take the irst street on your left, the community centre is down there about 100 mtrs on your left hand.

Thank you very much, Slipper :-)

I know exactly where the Newtownards one is from your description (althogh I'd still be interested inknowing what night the Redburn one is on if you happen to find out :-) )

Thanks again...you're a star!

Apparently the Redburn is a Match and is held their once a month.  Need to ask around a bit more to narrow it down to day etc. If you go to the Obedience at redburn some of the people or the instructor may know.  No Ringcraft apparently - just the match.
- By ShaynLola Date 08.05.08 09:12 UTC
Thanks Slipper...was pretty sure that there wasn't a ringcraft there.  I'll ask around the instructors about the match night.

Cheers.

Thanks to everyone who has replied.

I managed to take puppy to the Bangor class tonight. I was rather nervous but everyone was lovely and puppy seemed fairly good. Both 'judges' said she was very good for her age, and I got some helpful advice.

I am going to try the Newtownards class on Wednesday, my nerves need more work than the puppy! LOL

Glad you enjoyed yourself and the pup did well.  Good luck on Wednesday.

I have to say that I have found this thread of great use to me as we are moving to Kinnegar in Northern Ireland in November so I will be needing to find a ringcraft to attend.
- By slipper [us] Date 13.05.08 10:00 UTC
I'm glad some people are finding the info useful.  If anyone knows of ringcraft in the Derry area if they could include it in the string.  I know some people who would find it useful as they are travelling to Ballymena for Ringcraft at the moment.
- By CLOUGHROE [ie] Date 16.05.08 18:23 UTC
there is ringcraft in donegal..
- By slipper [us] Date 19.05.08 13:27 UTC
Apparently in Letterkenny.
- By CLOUGHROE [ie] Date 23.05.08 17:54 UTC
Yes it is in Letterkenny, 7.30pm on a tuesday evening,,
- By CLOUGHROE [ie] Date 04.06.08 21:42 UTC
We could do with more people coming to the ringcraft in letterkenny and some extra handlers would be great , as I will soon have some puppies needing tobe handled.
If I had eight hands I would not have a problem.
