Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Golden with Coat Problem

Any recomendations on shampoo or conditioner for a Golden Retriever.  One of the problems is that when she dries after her bath the coat on top of her rump looks like its standiing on end (using dry flat coat or natural with brushing ) Note:  she hates the hair dryer.   Looks like she's had a scare.  I'm only new to showing - she's my first show goldie so any advice would be great.  She has a wavy goldy coat which not very manageable - looks something like a polar bear at present but will have to trim her soon for her next show.

Firstly, I use Exmarid as it is a coal tar shampoo and doesn't strip the coat, then a drying jacket like in the link. Scroll down to the drying coat.

I have a dry flat coat and have been using it on her for the last number of shows.  Even with it that part of the coat still sits on end.  I can brush it till the cows come home and it will remain like that.

Is it always like that or has the 'scary' bit just come recently. I ask because it could be that her coat is just at a stage of growth and is shorter at that point. Definitely I would coat that area in particular with conditioner, then wash out.

Only noticed it in the last couple of months so could be a stage.  She's started to loose coat in the last week or so - I'm hoping this may help in the long run.  Her next show is on Saturday so will definately condition it as you suggest.
