Can someone tell me if winning BPIS at a Breed Open Show will qualify you for Crufts. I think it does at a general open but am not sure about the Breed shows.

No it doesn't -no placings at breed open shows count I'm afraid.

While we're asking about Crufts qualification, could you tell me if a breed championship show qualifies you for Crufts, and if it does, what do you have to gain at it?

It does in certain circumstances. If the breed is one that has championship status (i.e. can gain CCs) there must be CCs on offer at the show for the dog to qualify. (So in my breed Malinois, we have one breed Champ.show were we CAN qualify, and one where we can NOT, because until 2010, only one of them has CCs.) The exact qualifications vary a bit from breed to breed, but essentially in most classes a 1st, 2nd or 3rd placing will qualify for Crufts.

We do! - I love that quote. Thanks for the help. I am trying to sort out what shows to enter, and thought I knew what I needed to know, and then discovered I didn't quite. My dog is a Labrador so I'll have to look into the show I'm interested in further.

A friend of mine won BPIS at a Russian Black show today (her first) I dont think there are Ccs for RBts so how can you qualify for Crufts.

I'm sure all the Breed Champ Shows for Labs have qualifying classes, but not every class will qualify you!

I'm looking at the Stoneleigh Labrador Retriever Club show on 7th June.

My black Lab was bred by  Poolehall Labradors. His pedigree is show on one side, and field on the other, including a dual purpose dog on the field side. He is not a chunky type though, quite slender. Of course he is most beautiful to me!

I've just signed us up for our first show - fingers crossed we at least comport ourselves with diginity, even if we don't win anything!

Which class/es have you entered for? The usual Crufts qualifying classes are Minor Puppy, Puppy, Junior, Post Graduate, Limit and Open (And possibly Veteran, but don't quote me!), and you need to be placed first, second or third.

For breed without CCs, it's easy, as ALL Championship shows qualify for Crufts. :) Even if there are no breed classes they can qualify in AVNSC, with the usual placings.

Yes veteran is a qualifying class as well.

I've entered the three counties show, post grad and limit. Still checking out the Stoneleig show.

There are so many variations from breed to breed,I would suggest that you contact The Kennel Club  'shows department' and they can send you a list of what qualifacations apply, some change each year. There are also 'Bands' for the breeds according to the entry they get, this will affect the requirements for qualifying, you can get this list also.

In simple terms if your breed has CC status then all championship shows will have qualifying classes.  1st to third in these classes only, these are Puppy (minor puppy if classified), Junior, Post Graduate, Limit and Open classes.  In some very strong numbered breeds they can qualify from other classes too.

Breed Open shows don't count.  General Open shows as already mentioned.

Breeds without CC's it is classes at Championship shows scheduling the breed.  Again Puppy, Junior, PG, Limit and Open.

No, only those champ.shows with CCs on offer of course. :) (Which in my breed is just 8 shows a year including Crufts itself.)

I'm confused now (doesn't take a lot ;) )   If no CC's are on offer at a BREED CLUB CH. SHOW, what is it about the show that makes it a Championship Show?  I've always thought that the difference between Open Shows and Championship shows was the Championship Show had CC's on offer?  Hence, for me, a Championship Show with classes for Bedlingtons but no CC's is, to me, a glorified, expensive open show?

As I said, doesn't take much to confuse me, I'm still a newbie at all this.

Marianne has a breed where there are four varieties which are shown separately.  All four varieties are shown at one Breed Club Ch show.  Two varieties may have CCs on offer at that show but the other two may not.

Thanks for clearing that up.  My tiny mind was desperately trying to think of ways that a Champ show with no CCs would be different to an open show LOL
