was thinking of going to watch as a dog i exported will be there showing Well trying to get a flight out of Manchester to arrive in daylight is impossible  tried 2nd 3rd 4th july only one flight a day   hows everybody got theres?
- By Goldmali Date 09.04.08 10:53 UTC
Most of us that go with dogs will be driving. :) Have you tried different airlines? Should be more than one flight a day for Manchester?? Also MUCH cheaper is going with Sterling airlines from East Midlands Airport. They don't fly every day but when my mum used them at christmas her ticket was a third of the price she normally pays to fly to Manchester. And it does go to the proper airport as well. i.e Arlanda outside Stockholm, not one of the smaller ones. :) However you don't get a meal etc. http://www.sterling.dk/flight

We booked last July with BA from Heathrow - while it was still very cheap (about £49 before taxes etc. I think)
- By briedog [gb] Date 09.04.08 12:11 UTC
it dosnt get dark untill 11.30 pm then to sun rise at 2 am

not much chance of gettting dark in july.

stockholm is a safe and easy place to get around.

i,m going to watch this year and will get thinking about taking my dog next year  i,ve had 1st jab for rabies and have to go back in 21 days for blood check and all i know after that is that is after 6/7 months he should be able to travel with pet passport and is there a ruling on worming? Then to come home does dog have to be check or tested again? How long does rabies jab last do you have to keep going to vets every so often to see if dog is still imune sorry for all questions and i know 2009 is a long way off but i,d like to know rules first Do they hold the world show in Sweden every year or does it go to different country

They move the show around, next year Bratislava. Best to talk to your vet about jabs, my vets use a three year one. Tick and tapeworm have to be done on the way back but it is quite straightforward. See you in Stockholm everybody!

but going into sweden the dog have to have another blood test taken at 122 day after the vacc as well 30 day one for other ue countrys.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 09.04.08 21:14 UTC
The dog has to be treated for ticks and a particular tapeworm between 24 and 48 hours of returning to the UK.

The rabies jab needs to be repeated every 2 years (although this is still a grey area because some countries require an annual booster), but no further titre tests are required - despite recent evidence that immunity doesn't always last even a single year.
- By Jeff (Moderator) Date 09.04.08 21:40 UTC
All these are good points. You don't need to worry about the 121 day test as you are not taking a dog to Sweden, and when your vet vaccs your dog they will/should write in the date to boost-though as JG says immunity is a bit of a grey area- but let's keep that to ourselves in case someone from Westminster is on the forum!
- By briedog [gb] Date 09.04.08 22:11 UTC
why keep these things quite it should be out in the open as we are paying good money for the results, we want our dogs covered for rabies and others deisease,so not to bring them back to the uk where there will be more problems.

after all we are soposed to be resposible dog owners.

AND be wormed between 1 and 10 days before entering Sweden to start with.

I would agree we are meant to be responsible but whenever Westminster get involved with dogs they seem to be a bit wide of the mark, the last thing we need are more anti-dog laws. We are bit of topic now but happy to discuss on a new thread.

just think there aloop hole in every thing.

as for the p/p  the titer test some are failing at 10 months, you know if it fail and pass as it a equiment you have the test done after 121 day to enter sweden, not any other eu country,

as i have wrote on other post over the last month,i only found out about the problem that as been rising in the post i have writen over the last six week bye talking to owners here in the uk and in sweden.

plus i have spoke to defra about it.last week
- By Jeff (Moderator) Date 10.04.08 07:42 UTC
As you say loopholes exist almost everywhere, other than that not sure what we are disagreeing on?
Jeff.
- By briedog [gb] Date 10.04.08 07:53 UTC Edited 10.04.08 07:58 UTC
i am not disagreeing i stating about the rabies vacc, that  one blood test it pass at 30- days then 10 months the same dog as another blood and it failed.that dog only had the second blood for the equirment to enter sweden.
so he fail at 10  months to enter sweden he titer test are down but he can go to any other country on the pass test at 30 day knowing that he not coverd for rabies in and out of the uk on a 3 year vacc for rabies.from the results of the 1o months blood test,

not alot of owners with p/p will do the second blood beacuse they may not be entering sweden, and will not know the knowlegde that that the vacc as failed.just thinking they got 3 year to way for the booster think that their dog cover for rabies in that time.
read page 7 /8 on the link MARIANNSB POST about rabies,
worm/flea i agree on.

I see, fair enough. My point is the OP is not taking a dog to Sweden, she is asking about 2009 and there is a seperate thread on that whole issue.

can i ask those of you who are going by car How long does it take and is it cheaper than flying i know you would need a car once youve got off plane but if you had someone the other end to meet you which is the best option?
- By Jeff (Moderator) Date 10.04.08 09:43 UTC
Personally if you are not taking a dog I would fly. I have only driven as far as Northern Germany, which took a day, but suspect Stockholm is another days drive-best guess- sure someone who has done it will be along soon. My flight was £100 (roughly) so once you factor in ferries/tunnel, hotel and fuel I think it it cheaper and I can have a gin and tonic! :-)
If you are just going to the show public transport should suffice although I suppose that depends where you stay!
- By briedog [gb] Date 10.04.08 11:21 UTC
i paid £106 return with BA flights from 4th to 7 th july cheaper than going by car if you not taking a dog

two day travel in a car where 2 hours in a plane

Hi everyone,
I suppose the majority of you will go by car, and from Denmark drive over to Sweden on the "Oresundsbridge"?
I live five minutes away from where the bridge lands here in Sweden, and often pass over it when I go to dog shows in Denmark.
You pay for useing the bridge here on the Swedish side. You'll then just drive on, straight onto the motorway again. In theory you're supposed to drive over to the right hand side, stop and try to find a customs officer to show you pet passport to.
In reality, most of the times traffic is so intense, there is NO way you can cross maybe five or six lanes of accelerating cars, before you find yourself back on the motorway.
We usually don't stop, but obviously keep all the paperwork in perfrect order, then just show it on demand. That's IF you're asked by an officer standing at the side of your lane, if you have anything to declare.
I'm in no way writing this to give the impression the passports aren't important. Of course they are! But you lot, coming from England, are not the ones that we worry about, when it comes to bringing sickness with you. I'm telling you this, so you won't feel too surprised when you find yourself entering Sweden without even having the chance to show your paperwork :o)
I won't be showing at the WDS, but will be there to watch. I'm showing at my breed circuit show on the day before, think that's enough considering the litter is only eight weeks old tomorrow. Don't think my girl will be back in shape well enough to be able to compete at World Dog Show-level by then ;-)
If anyone has questions I might be able to answer, I'd be happy to do so.
Karen
