Topic Dog Boards / Showing / withdrawing from a class
- By DEARLADY [gb] Date 07.04.08 21:01 UTC
just some advice please - one of my pups from last year is going to his first champshow this month, the owner has entered him into MP, P and J. She then panicked and thought it was too much, and  I suggested that the Junior class was perhaps unnecessary as he is only a pup.

She has rung the show secretary who was apparently rather rude and said it would be considered bad manners to withdraw, but I believe she is rectifying the entry..

now my understanding was, that if for example this boy won his MP and Puppy classes, he could be withdrawn from Junior anyway to remain unbeaten....but have I got that wrong??? (and I'm not suggesting for one minute that I think he will come first at all!!!)

I'm no expert and I don't want to give this lady incorrect advice  -  so what is the correct etiquette???

If he wins MP and P then withdraws junior he cannot go into any further competition (Ie BOS and BP)

In repeat entry classes in the breed, you don't do much so I would say just go in J.

I think if you withdraw from one class in the breed you can have any ther awards taken away from you, but don't quote me on that.

thanks for clarifying, tho I am still a little confused....I guess the lesson is not to enter too many classes in the first place

I will make sure she knows what she is entered into on the schedule, I don't want his first show to be a disaster!!

The only classes that you can really withdraw from is the any variety ones.  As they've entered all three might as well go in them all and if the judge likes it you never know it may get first in both puppy classes.

I would advise it's owners not to enter so many breed classes next time though.  I only really do one breed class and then some of the varities or stakes classes.

If you were to win both the puppy class's but got beaten in Junior by an adult dog then you could stil challenge for Best Puppy.

ah that will have been what I have read in the catalogues - I knew there were circumstances where you could withdraw....

but as has been suggested I think the main issue is not to enter too many breed classes

but fingers crossed - he may have a really good day!!

I entered five classes with my Junior bitch at our club champ show(It is often common to enter lost of classes and there are points trophies for the do winning most points on the day).  I won all five and the CC and RBIS, so ti can happen.

As already said if they are unbeaten by another puppy they can still challenge for BP.

You cannot withdraw from breed classes only variety.

As a seen dog you will just stand to one side, and may be asked to move again with the class at the end or individually if the judge is considering including you in the new classes placings, so it isn't too tiring, and you can relax your dog until the rest of the class are seen.
