Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Cut off age for puppy classes

Hi

This is my first season of showing and I'm struggling a bit with choosing a class!  It was ok up til March but I'm now planning shows through nine months and twelve months I'm getting confused.  If my dog was born on 3 July 2007 when is the last date he could be entered in a puppy class?  Could he stay in a puppy class whilst he is 12 months and up until he is 13 months ie 2 July 2008; or does he move out of this class on his 1st birthday?

Just to confuse things SWKA champ show for gundogs is on 5th July but the first day of the show is 3rd July - what then??!!  Can anyone help please

Only until the 3rd July, unless the show is say a four day one and the first day of it was on the 3rd July, your dog could actually be shown on the last day, making it the 6th July.

OK thanks very much - you can see how confused I am, I even put the wrong dates in the post.  He will be 13 months on 3rd August not July!  So is this right:

DOB 03/07/07
Minor Puppy:  up to and including April 3rd 2008
Puppy:  up to and including July 3rd 2008

Yep, unless of course it is a show that starts on those dates, then you can still show on any day of the show as if it were the first day regarding age.

I'm pretty sure the first day of SWKA is 3 July 2008 this year, so make sure you read the small print VERY carefully!

Thank you, yes it is.  I double checked with the show sec this morning and she has confirmed that he will be eligible for the Puppy class.  I'm not completely sure about the advantages and disadvantages of either class but I think it might give us a boost as he will be a more mature puppy rather than an immature Junior?

Please can you confirm if this is the same for Junior Barbara?

If you are still a junior on the first day of the show you can enter the junior class?

Getting in a pickle so bear with me - say you are 18months on the first day of the show - are you still elligible for junior if the your classes i.e. gundog group doesn't fall until the last day?

Hope I have made sense there!

On the schedule under classification it will say Junior- for dogs of six and not exceeding 18 calander months on the first day of the show. So yes it is taken from the age on the first day for each show and if your dog is 18months on the first day of the show it doesn't exceed it. Hence eligable for Junior.
