Hi
Quick question, Cairn Terriers. are they put on the table or free staaning>?
Or is it down to what the judge prefers?

Cairns are gone over by the judge on the table.  The classes I've watched, they are shown free standing on the floor when not being gone over by the judge.

I just wondered for those with table breeds whether you have to have your dog on the table, or can choose not to?

I also find it strange to see which breeds are put on the table when dogs the same height are not.  The ones I find strange are Whippets, as they are about the same height as Finnish Spitz or Buhund, and some the size of my breed.

I often see especially lady whippet handlers have a job  to reach to the top of their exhibits head when stood on the table.

I used to show my Whippet (who was born in 1979! Makes me feel old :-D ) and even back then there used to be elderly lady handlers who presented their Whippets on the floor.  I'm often asked, when judging, if it's OK to go over a Whippet on the floor, and even other table breeds.  It's not the norm but I have no problems with it.

Oh I am glad that it isn't something you have to do, as some of the table breeds are not that light if your a bit unsteady on your feet or have arthritis.

Yes,tell me about Brainless.!!. Cardigan corgis are pretty heavy dogs and I can remember my young son having quite a struggle to lift his male cardigan corgi on to the table. In fact as we are all getting older I have noticed at some shows that the steward kindly helps some exhibitors to put their dogs on the table. One of the reasons that I have now got Tibetan Spaniels, though still have a cardi.
