What do the numbers mean beside the names.
And theres a blast from the past name!!!
Bet Fred Ellingford wont remember me, But what a lovely guy :)

The numbers are the dogs ring number. Each breed starts with number 1 then upwards. Always seemed more logical to me rather than having dog number 130564 say at Crufts!!!
- By Brainless [gb] Date 12.02.08 10:12 UTC
It makes sense in the US as they don't have the Variety classes like we do.  Would make things very hard to have several dogs with the same number in the sVariety classes.

PS. I think the Standard Poodle will go BIS tonight, no matter who wins the groups today. Fab dog! Just wish I was there, Westminster is just the most "show business" show I have ever been to.
- By Dogz Date 12.02.08 12:42 UTC
Thanks for that link, I justed watched my breed and loved it!

Karen ;-)

Watched it last night on TV and boy was it wonderful.  Cant wait for tonight, as the three groups I watch every single show I am at are on.
The sporting group (GO ESS!!!!!  Thats my pick)
The Toy Group (want the min pin, but probably wont happen, so I choose the Pek)
Working Group (Go DOBERMAN!!!!!!!!  That could happen.  But I wouldnt be surprised if a Mastiff dog took it either)

4 New breeds added to Westminster this year as well.

Group Results from Yesterday:
Hound
1 - 15 inch Beagle
2 - LH Daschound
3 -Harrier
4 - PBGV

Terrier
1 - Sealyham (sp) terrier
2 - Scottish Terrier
3 - Norfolk Terrier
4 - Smooth Fox Terrier

Non Sporting
1 - Poodle (standard)
2 - Bulldog
3 - Bichon Frise
4 - I think it was the dalmation

Herding
1 - Aussie
2- Bouvier (Congrats Elaine!!!!! Canadian Dog)
3 - German Shephard Dog
4 - Corgi (Pembroke I believe)

Hope tonight is just as exciting..........Cant wait

Of which one is the Swedish Vallhund, Best of breed, Best opposite sex and AOM were all UK bred dogs with last year's crufts BOB getting BOB there as well.

Yes, thats what the announcer was saying last night.

It was also interesting to see the Plott hound.  Very interesting looking coat, and nice head.
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 12.02.08 14:15 UTC
Judging solely by the pic of the dal winner, I imagine he must have terrific movement and personality, because otherwise he'd never have done anything!
- By Crespin Date 12.02.08 15:41 UTC
Sorry, Non Sporting Group 4th did NOT go to the Dalmation, it went to the Tibetan Terrier.

So sorry about that incorrect post!!!

- By ShaynLola Date 12.02.08 19:40 UTC
Working group is today but, with the time difference, all the results aren't in yet (more importantly, the Newfs results aren't in yet :-D )

Just went to have a browse through the videos and looking at the GSD one http://video.westminsterkennelclub.org/player/?id=216528 Have you seen how its spelt at the top and bottom of the browser (the blue strip on internet explorer).  Deary me......
- By Crespin Date 12.02.08 21:07 UTC
Thats totally gotta be a typo!  LOL
- By ShaynLola Date 12.02.08 21:14 UTC Edited 12.02.08 21:23 UTC
Deary me indeed!!

On another note...what is the obsession with cropping ears?  I've just been watching the video of the Beauceron judging and they look so much better with natural ears, IMO.

Just watched the judging for GSP's. Really liked the winner from the initial photos. Then , right at the end, the owner picks the gsp ( male) up by the tail lifting his rear end off the floor ( including back legs) and drops it! Unbelievable, I would never pick my boy up with his tail, why did he do that!!!!
- By newf3 [gb] Date 13.02.08 20:45 UTC
no newf results still.
- By ShaynLola Date 13.02.08 20:56 UTC
Newf results here
- By newf3 [gb] Date 13.02.08 21:21 UTC
thanks shaynlola,

Nice to see a dog from vet class winning best of breed.
- By ShaynLola Date 13.02.08 21:26 UTC
That's what I thought too :-)
- By LucyDogs [gb] Date 15.02.08 09:15 UTC
Ottoman I see a lot of terrier people handling their dogs like that, and the American cocker people are increasingly doing it too. I don't like it either!! :-(
