What do you think is a good shampoo ? One that whitens the white bits and brings out the red. My dog is red merle and I am not sure what is best. His coat had been a bit dry but I am guessing it was due to a surgery he had. So far because he is not yet being shown I have been using an everyday dog shampoo and Chris Christenson Silk spirits and the ice on ice for preventing mats.

I used to us the C.Christenson stuff for my Belgian but he was all black so I never had to worry about bright whites... :)

Also the coat was shaved twice from over his shoulders last September and October and though the hair is growing well length wise...it is not as bright (I can see a big difference) as the rest and is a different consistancy. I am getting anxious to show him....he had the operation just two weeks before his first show And he is missing out on valuable experience due to the coat not coming in like it was.

Are there supplements he could take which help with growth and colour?

Thanks

TA

Royal jelly is supposed to help both conditions. You can buy it in capsule or liquid form.

I used to use Show Pride Whitening Shampoo on my Bedlies (Dark body coat and light/white head/legs) loved it but can't get it now :( so am using Johnsons Bright-n-White which is good or Perfect Coat Pearl for White/light coats - lovely coconut smell :)

I've found that keeping the white/light parts of the coat sparkling gives the edge to the darker/deeper parts as it looks deeper by comparison ;)  - and there's nothing worse than a dingy white coat :(

As my dog's coats aren't supposed to be soft, I use a terrier/wire-hair shampoo (no conditioners) before a show so they stay the right texture ;)

If anyone knows of a shampoo like Show Pride, I'd like to know please :)  I've tried the Wahl one and don't like it, dogs seem itchy after bathing in it :(

I use Bio-Groom's Superwhite on my Shih Tzu's white bits.  Really whitenens them with out harsh bleaching agents.  You can get it from www.petcetera.co.uk and is is about £6 They also do Summerwind Shine On shampoo which is said to whiten white bits and bring out the colour, that one is £9.  I read somewhere on the forum someone recommending a product called Restore from www.doghealth.co.uk which is a supplement supposed to help with coat growth.
Have you tried seaweed or kelp powder.  I always add it to my dogs and persian cats food and it really helps to deepen pigment and strengthen coat colour and growth try www.hiltonherbs.co.uk for that.  I also use a spray  (200ml of water with 15 drops of lavender oil & 15-20 drops of rosemary oil in) when I am grooming both oils are brilliant for coat condition and rosemary is said to help with re-growth.  These can be bought easily & cheaply from health shops or www.simplysupplements.com  These work for me so throught worth passing on!  Hope this helps

I used to use 5 Rings Bright White for my White & Black TT.  Bit difficult with a merle I suppose ;-)  I'd concentrate on the white as I doubt there's anything to dull the red down (or bring it out for that matter).  Have used many products over the years & one of the best for giving the coat a shine was bizarrely enough Revlon Flex Conditioner?!!
