Ok tis mine and keldas first show on saturday (Leigh Canine Soc.)...

Verrrrry little clue what im doing if im honest.. OH is having to show her as my back is knacked, so thats a shame as she will mess him about which she wouldnt do with me, but there again its not so bad if she does at her age (only just 6 months).

Random stupid questions:

What do i need to take with me (asides from dog stuff, me stuff)... do i need anything to prove im me, or that she is who i say she is?

Where do i go when i first get there, do i get a number?

Panicpanic..

HI - remember my first show all too well!  Bag of nerves too.

If you are happy with your doggy stuff and me stuff then you just need to take a smile :)

No need to take proof of id for you or your dog.

You will be given your number at your ring by the steward - if you are getting a catalogue the steward finds it helpful if you know your number which will be in the that but you don't need to definitely know it!  As the steward has a catalogue.

HAVE FUN!  Whatever happens just enjoy yourselves.

Don't forget you will need some sort of clip to attach your ring number, so if you don't have one then allow time to find one - there will normally be a stall selling them dirt cheap, or I'm sure someone will lend you one.

Have fun and good luck,

M.

Good luck to you and your girl. Try not to get too nervous im sure she will do you proud. Remember to take some treats for her and make it fun. I would never leave home without my liver for my girls because they know they are going to get yummy liver when they get in the ring so are always raring to go!
Let us know how you get on!

Take food and drink with yo for yourselves as they are usually quite dear at the shows!!

And don't forget a bowl for the dog to have a drink out of ;-)

I remember my first ever show. It was Border Union Champ show and I sat on the benches wondering where everyone had gone. They were all ringside ;-) I got to the ring just as my class was being placed, so we missed it :-D Never done that again...... :-)

remember to get to the show in good time open shows are usually quite small places compared to Ch shows and if you want to set up near your ring the earlier the better even if it means waiting ,also if you are in plenty of time you can practice with him in the ring for a few minutes, dont forget a folding chair if you have one especially if your back is injured cant rely on them supply many seats.

ROFL!! Oh Em! that is soo NOT how I imagine you!
Just wanted to wish you and Kelda the very best of luck (not that it will be needed) If you have even half the flair and dedication in the ring that you show in the valuable and helpful posts you've put on here over the years... well..the tickets in the bag!! ;-)
Enjoy!
Let us know how it goes.

Oh first shows.

We use a rubber band for our number.  We put the rubber band around our arms, and then out the armband number in that, while the elastic is holding it to our arms.

I remember my first show!!!!!!  My first time in the ring, my mom let me handle Casie in Group!!!  No breed practice, just group.  She was a puppy at the time.  I was so flustered, I made her look rouchbacked.  AWFUL!!!  Then I came out of the ring, and went straight to the washroom so upset.  Not realizing that Casie may have to go back in the ring, for puppy group!!!

The second time, well the first time I handled someone elses dog, the dog wouldnt walk.  She jumped around the ring on her hind legs, with her paws wrapped around the leash.  The dog was 8 months old and never before had a leash on.  Well, at least I got her to move a couple steps.  If it were my dog, I would have worked at least the basics, but hey.

Chers first time at the show, she jumped right off the table into the judges arms, and gave the judge lots of kisses.  Good thing she was still a junior puppy, 6 months to the day!!!!!

ANyways, let us know how you got on.  The main thing is to have fun with it, as it is easier to train a dog that has fun with the shows, then to try and work a spoiled dog, who hates everything to do with shows!!
