Topic Dog Boards / Showing / grooming tables
- By Dogz Date 17.01.08 17:22 UTC
I would like to get a grooming table, but no sure where to start....
My dog is small (westie sized) what is my best option? It is for home as at a show we manage okay (so far anyway) with a carpet square on top of his cage.

Hi Karen

Make sure you get one with BIG wheels.  This will save getting stuck if conditions are a bit rough or muddy.

She's stated that it's for home only, not for the shows.  Luckily the one that I have does have big wheels, really pleased with it.  (oh, I need to find out how to do the smilies again!)

Hi

The reason I stated this is I made the mistake of buying a table, then when the show team increased needed a trolley/table, (more expense), then when I got stuck last year realised I needed big wheels (yet more expense)!

Often it's much more cost effective to buy what you might need in the future rather than making do with what suits now and then having to replace again and again at a later date.

I hate the huge table trolley far too heavy and I at 5 ft 6 can lift reasonably heavy stuff.  I finally got rid of my large table trolley last year and please let it be a warning to others. I was taking my out the boot of my car at a show and  the front wheels moved while I was lifting it , my pinky got caught in it,  it was my right hand and I could not free it with my left as I was holding it. I tried everything but I couldn't free my finger.  If another car had not appeared a minute later and freed my hand I think I would have lost my pinky.  I had to miss the show and go right home.   I nearly passed out with fear and pain.   Honestly not kidding.

I now have a sperate table and a large wheeled trolley. Both are quite light. I can lift them both out with one hand no problem. Yes it means taking the two but I just bungee the table on with everything else. All packed up it is so much lighter to get in and out the car , even pulling it is so much easier.

Ouch that sounds awful! I have a hydraulic table at home as I'm a part time groomer. At the shows I would love an excuse to buy the large wheeled table trolleys I have seen, but unfortunately the bit of plywood with a car mat stuck on and put on top of my cage is still working perfectly!

If it works then its fine. I Swear I know of a few people now moving away from the heavy table trolleys. I could barely lift it that alone was wht I dreading going to the shows not the 7 hour each way drive :-)

I have a electric table at home brillant and just recently bought the saddle grooming stool from Simpsons that I also loves. It makes you sit properly when you are trimming and what a difference on the back.

Sounds tempting but I have such bad posture when I sit normally I can't imagine I would sit up straight to groom - besides, I need to dance all round the table with some of my customers!!

I used to be the same but am pretty good now  i just get the table at the right height. My table is in the corner also which I think stops them trying to wander so much :-)
