Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Affix and changing names of current dogs
- By JoBoxer [gb] Date 21.01.08 16:52 UTC
Hi,  I've just registered my affix, and I'd now like to add this affix onto the end of my dogs names.  However, my first dog, when he was registered, didn't have an actual affix - he went under the kennel club affixes, ie he is 'kenmilltri...'  So as this isn't someone's personal affix, could I just completely change his name, get rid of the kennmilltri and replace it with my new affix, or will the normal rules apply?

Thanks!

A kennel name or "affix" cannot be entered as the first part of the dog's name - i.e. a "pre-fix" unless bred by you or bred from two dogs which were both bred under your affix.  It can only be attached to the end of the name so for eg "Kenmiltri joe blogs at/for .... " etc

regards, Teri

"Kenmilltri" is his affix; it just belongs to the KC rather than a member of the public. So the normal rules apply - you can add your own affix to the end of his name, so that he becomes "Kenmilltri XXXX at (or of, or with, or from etc) JoBoxer".

Thanks both :) Shame I can't ditch the Kenmilltri, but not to worry. I got my first choice of affix so am over the moon, and it will still look nice on the end of his name :)

I've just got my first show dog (I don't show the older 2), and I'll be taking her to her first rally next week, so i'm sure I'll be back in here again looking for some tips soon !

Thanks again

Jo

Hi JoBoxer

The dog with the Kenmilltri affix is this your new showdog or have I got the wrong end of the doodah?

>have I got the wrong end of the doodah?

Wrong end of the doodah I think :-D

The one with the KC affix is a male and the new showdog a female (no not psychic, it says his/her in the post )

Sorry, I confuse people without even trying ;)

My 5 yr old red boy is my oldest, with the Kenmilltri affix. I got him before I knew the breed in any great depth.

Then comes my 3 yr old brindle bitch, lovely breeding, I was starting to learn at last ;)

And now there is my 10 week old new brindle bitch, wonderful breeding, good looks, and prospective show pup.

Well that's not such a dissapointment...not being able remove the KC given affix from one you're not going to show. It would have been a pest if it were the one that will appear in catalogues!!
Good luck with the babe.

Sorry to hijack...

What does it mean he is under kennel club affix??
It is just that I have never heard of this before...

Can't you just register puppies without an affix or will kennel club add a random one in or what?
(this is what happens in where I come from, you register the puppies with just their given names without any affix...

There's a box on the litter registration form if you do not put your initials in the KC will add their current year's Kennel name to any dog that only has one name on the application(you cannot registration a UK dog with just one name with the KC)also if the name is not available they will name the dog & usually use the current year's KC Kennel Name

The Kennel Club Kennel name(previously called the Kennel Club affix)alters each year (the last part that is)
