Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Finding Judges...
- By Dude Dog [gb] Date 16.01.08 14:49 UTC
I'm writing for a friend who has just become secretary for a dog club running a limit and open show.

What specifications is she looking for in finding judges firstly for an open show and later on in the year a limit show ??
eg: What judging lists do they have to be on?
Do they have to be able to award cc's or not in their breed?
There are AV classes sceduled for each group so what 'qualifications' does a judge need to have to judge an AV class?
What lists does a judge need to be on to judge BIS?
What is the maximum number of breeds/classes 1 judge can do at a show?

Basically any advice in finding judges for an entire open show. All help very gratefully recieved.
Are there any websites which will help - she found 1 website with all round judges on but it was very minimal with about 8 names on. Do the KC produce any help booklet etc??

I am really suprised that she does not have the help of a committee as getting it wrong can incur plenty fines.  It sounds very worrying.

Help is at hand though :-)

The Manual called: The Manual for Kennel club registered societies and clubs is a must have for any club.. it has everything in it. I mean everything it.

She also needs right now the The KC Red book with all the show regulations in it ..

The secretary should contact the breed clubs of the breed who will be present at the show and get a current judging list.

Thanks for your replies.

As far as i know there are 4 other committee members but i think its the usual story of people being willing to help but not actually comming up with any productive help.

She has been to a lot of breed clubs and got their judging lists but that doesnt tell you what other breeds they can judge too - surely there must be an easier way to find out who can do what without having to actually ring the perspective person up?

Is it the KC that the manual can be obtained from? She does have the red book but works full time too so i know finding the time to sit and read through it all is difficult :)

If your really stuck Try Dog.Biz they have Judges Profiles on this link  http://dog.biz/cgi-bin/JudgingProfiles.cgi
Mind you im also very surprised that someone who is obviously so inexperienced (all be it willing ) in the ruddiments of running a Canine Society & with such a meagre committee!!!!  i dont envy them being at the Helm of that Society!!
Good Luck
Cheers

For an open show someone must be a CC awarding judge to judge AVs, groups BIS. Can just be in 1 breed.

If more than 3 classes (or 5 classes if a band E stud book breed) then a judge must be on a breed club B list or have a KC JDP Credit in that breed.

No limit on number of breeds/classes/dogs anyome can judge - probably best not ot overload people, but many all rounderslike to have a busy day especially if they are to travel for no expenses/fee.

KC publish a list of judges, but these are only CC awarding people.

best of luck

Meant to say most clubs have the judding list avaliable either online or via e-mail soft copy,

Some societies seem hell bend in giving to these who get all the time ( judging appointments that is)  whilst others maximise the class IE up to 3 classes so that C & B listed judges can do the appointment.

I was at a open show recently lovely person judging but as usual no involvement in our breed. It is rare to get a breed specialist judding. I find it all a bit sad.   Clubs keeping saying it costs too much to have too many judges  rubbish most will do it for free :-)

I think a lot of clubs take the cost of lunches etc. into account here, but it's false economy in my view - a breed specialist judge will (certainly in my breed) get more than the extra entries required to cover any minimal additional expenses. Try and make sure your friend uses judges who are in the breed if at all possible, or at the very least within the same group - I'm sure it will be reflected in their entries.

I never read what I type till it is too late :-)  too many boxes open and doing too much at once. :-)
