Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Judges Question
- By Crespin Date 11.01.08 00:28 UTC
I am wanting to enter the Ontario Breeders Association show, with my min pin.  The judge judging it, said at the last show (he wasnt judging, he had a dog entered)  "That is the most beautiful min pin I have ever seen".
Around here, judges dont usually comment on dogs, whether they are judging or just a person at ringside.
The thing is, some people say that if a judge says something like what he said about my pin, that it sometimes backfires on you to enter your dog under him.  Since he doesnt want to look like he made the decision at the last show.

I only need 4 more points to finish her Championship.  This judge is judging right from breed level, all the way to best in show.  It could happen for her that weekend!!!!

Any one with experience like this?  My dog already has her 3 judges and her major.  So it could be done point by point.

Should I go for it?

Oh it's a tough one, if it were me I would enter - nothing ventured, nothing gained. Although when I was campaiging my first borzoi, he was stuck on 2CCs for a year. In that year so many judges went out of their way to tell me they really liked him, he was a fabulous mover etc, and should have won the ticket...then they were judging and I'd travelled hundreds of miles to go under them, we'd get the rcc, or worse a 3rd or 4th...lol.

I still say go for it and good luck :)

Oh, I know your pain with the boy I bred that was made up in November!! Took him much longer than a year stuck on two tickets, but he got there in the end.

To the original poster ... if you're not in it, you can't win it! Can't see any reason you wouldn't try if the dog has commented favourably on your dog. Just accept that he may have said the same to every Min Pin owner he came across, to boost his entry, and go and enjoy your day.

I'd say go, but don't count on winning.  soem judges have great memories fro a dog,a dn if that is so and he meant it then good, but others are fickle.

I would.
If you don't you might regret it.
And if he doesn't pick your dog then so be it.
But he could.
But you won't know unless you go.
If I knew a Judge liked my dog I would go, why not?
Others would.

Go for it :)

The worst that could happen I guess it getting dumped and loosing the entry fee.  But it would get me out of the house, and this complex for a little while - if yall dont know what gone on, read my post "How to deal with neighbours".

Showing is fun, and I would probably enjoy the day out.  Just dont have anyone ask me if its a chihuahua or a Miniature Doberman lol

And a lot of judges have a way of saying that to loads of exhibitors to raise their entries :-D :-D

However I would go you won't know the answer till you go :-)

Oh I didn't like to say judges might be massaging potential entries (but that is what I really meant by fickle), by being complimentary about your dogs, but Blue said it, LOL :D

Im gonna. It will get me out for the day, and dog shows to me are wonderful.  Talking with all kinds of people, and such, its great.

Also, see if I can get some neat new dog products.  I have been looking for a coat enhancer, the one I used doesnt work to well.  I need something that just makes the dog shine a bit, not to actually change her colour.

If she gets put up, that would be great.  If not, meh.

Its a break from this crazyness around here right now.

Who knows, this could finish her.  BIS???????  Probably only dreaming, but I can dream.

I can feel it.   Now just really work her, to make sure she is ready.  Dont want her to look bad at the Top Dog Awards Show.  That would be devistating.  (she isnt a top dog, but all the top dogs are going to be there!  want her to present herself good)

That's my birthday so I will wish her luck.

Well, am entering her in the show, and my friend Paul will be taking her in.  Hopefully she works for a man, she has never been shown by a man.

Was gonna enter her, as my aunt has the day off (reg handler) but found out hte other day the heater in her car broke, and that it costs a lot of money to fix.  She isnt sure that she can afford to go to the show.

But, now all I gotta do, is if I want to go, is to find a way down there.
