Hi everyone.

I have a Golden retriever bitch who wins quite well and has the blackest nose ive ever had on one of my dogs. Its never lost its colour and is often commented on. However, she ran up the road to a springer who lives nearby and he wasn't too pleased and either scratched or bit her on her nose. Now the scab has fell off she has 3 pink stripes down her nose. Does anyone know if the pigment will come back as her new skin grows or will she be scarred?? Is there anything i can give her or do to encourage the colour to come back correctly??
Any advice much appreciated.

One of my oldies had a run in with one of my mothers cats and got swiped and had a deep cut across her nose. She had a scar for the rest of her life :) Learnt not to pester cats again as well :D

Hi Mel,

my first girl got seen off too sharply by another dog and had a similar mark to you describe but it filled in again in time - a couple of months from memory (18/19 years ago, so not 100% accurate recollection :D )

Kelp helps pigmentation - you can buy kelp tabs from Dorwest so if it doesn't look to be gradually fading / filling in you may want to try that as a back-up.

HTH, Teri :)

My Beattie got bitten on the nose a few weeks ago and had three pink stripes on her nose leather after the scabs came off. Now all the pigment's back and there's no sign it had ever happened. So don't give up hope! :)

Most of my dogs have had this at one time or another -comes from having to learn to not treat cats as toys! :D They have all filled in again without exception.

Thank you all for your replies. Im feeling a bit more optimistic about it now. A judge even penalised her for it on sunday at a show. Gave her a 2nd then came and said, shes so beautiful but silly girl cut her nose!!!!!!!!!WHAT???????
I will also get some of the kelp tablets to help it along a little.
Thank you all.

Anton's cut his nose a couple of times over the years and it's gone pink only for it to return beautifully black again afterwards.

Got everything crossed for yours!

Bad luck with the show! My boy got a scab under his eye (argument with my other dog!) a few years back and the black rim of his eye had a pink blob in the middle for a few weeks, but it did gradually darken to black. He got a BOB during the 'pink' time too so you were unlucky with your girl. Hope it all comes back in black soon! :-)

Oh for *&^$"" sake, you have a gundog breed, what does the judge expect? Cuts and bruises, and scars should be forgiven. I wouldn't give the judge the entry fee next time. Tehy don't deserve it.

I've had dogs that have had cut noses and made full recovery, so don't panic..... ;)

I certainly wont be spending my money next time. Perhaps if i had said she did it on some brambles while she was picking up she would have thought twice about it........but then again, no she probably wouldn't have!!! Anyway, i know for next time!!

I had one of these hanging around giving me a complex on my show girl recently. Pigment Plus from Animal Health blacked it in really quickly, was very impressed. It's a herbal one.
