Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Missing classes

In addition to my previous post (I thank you all so much for your help!!! I finally understand a bit more about showing in UK now), I spoke with my friend back home who is entering her 2 dogs in Crufts 2008. They both have several Championships from various European countries, so naturally they'd enter Champion Class..... the problem is, there is no Champ Class for Schipperkes at all!! I seriously don't understand the logic behind it! Different breeds have different Classes, how's that possible?

Hi Ory
We don't have a champions class for any breeds in this country.  Our champions enter the open class for their sex.

Oh, and different breeds do have different classes scheduled.  This is because of the differences in the sizes of entries over the years (or is it registrations?) in that breed.

We don't have any Champion classes at all, Ory. Champions are entered into the Open class for their sex, along with non-champions.

the Open class it for dog ineligible for the lower classes, but any dog can be entered, but it will normally be dogs that have done a lot of winning or already are champions.

The whole idea is that to gain a CC you have to be the best dog or bitch on the day not just the best of the rest as in the USA for example where the champions do not compete for the certificates.

After the age classes classes in the UK are based on previous wins.

Thanks for the help! :) I guess Open Class it is then..... at least for her male that is. Her female however is around 8 years old. Do you think she should enter her in Veteran Class?

I am planning on entering Open and Veteran class with my 8 year old girl.  It is free to enter second or more classes at crufts.  Unlike FCI countries you can enter more than one class.

It would be nice to see how she can do against the best in Open and also compete agains the more mature ones in Veteran.

If it is a breed strong in numbers it gives her more of an idea how the bitch compares, with the Top winners and the older ones.

You never know she could win both and go through to challenge for the best of sex and the CC.
