>>If she is cropped she will not be able to be shown in the UK. The UK does not belong to the FCI so even if she could be shown here the wins would not count. I don't understand why your bitch would be cropped as Min Pins have naturally erect ears? <<
To answer your question, as to why my pin is cropped, the standard says "The ears must stand errect or be cropped". Uncropped dogs in Canada, do very poorly in the show ring. She does have a strong enough ear to have left her natural, but if I did that, I would be spending money on showing for basically nothing. I have only ever heard of one Min Pin with natural ears getting a Championship in Canada/USA. So to have a show dog, I cropped her.
Many breeds have the choice in Canada to stay natural, but it is very rarely seen. The Dobe, the Dane, the Griffon (Brussels) etc, all have in their standards that they can be shown naturally, but again, it is very hard, if not impossible to get a CH on an uncropped dog, where the norm is to have them cropped. Sad really, as I personally think, especially with the Min Pins, that the ears havent been focused on, and cropping is an easy way to hide bad ears.
