HELP!!
I am a Great Dane owner of many years standing. I have over the last few months been looking for a new pup to join our family, with who I could start a new hobby for the both of us. I now believe that I have found the perfect companion and want some advice on the starting points that I should follow. I have joined my breed club in Scotland as a starting point but just wondered what Equipment I will need Etc Etc....... I do not have any concerns over cost as I would spend my last penny and more ensuring the health and wellbeing of my girls, it was more advice on equip, do I need to attend ringcraft classes (More for me than my girl) and where I can purchase particular items needed. My Pup does not come to join me for another few weeks yet and I just wanted to be fully prepared before the arrival.. Cant wait though, if this is the equlivent of a male pregnancy, I cant wait for it to end so I can hear the pitter patter of tiny (or not so tiny) feet!!

Thanks to everyone for reading:cool:

Hi,
depends what you're looking for - I got most of his stuff from the internet & some at SKC when it was on. As for ringcraft where are you near?

Hi
Im looking for a list of everything an experienced show person would have with them, do you have any suggested websites to look at. Im based near Pitlochry.

Thanks for the reply

You must be mad, GG, think of the slobber! :D ;)

Who are you getting your Dane from, and what colour? (PM me this if you like, might be a problem to post on the board?)

Yes, best thing to do is get yourself along to a ringcraft class, both for you and your pup. Will get you some advice, and you'll also get to know a few friendly faces prior to the first nerve-wracking show.

Google for Hub international, Luxway ( they'll send you a catalogue ). I use shampoo & conditioner from Animal house. Also Working & pastoral show at Ingliston in November

I would advise ringcraft as essential for both you and the pup.  If your already and expereinced exhibitor you can get away without ringcraft, but it isn't ideal (I know as my current youngster is ahving to learn her ringcraft the expensive way at shows).

Also with such a large breed of pup you want them really bomb proof by the time they get to a show.

Remember from Pitlochry you are going to have a fair bit of travellling to any shows. A comfy, reliable car is essential, especially with a big breed, and a good alarm clock :D Most of the shows, with the exception of Dundee and Bon Accord,  are in the central belt and even then you have to go much further afield for Champ shows ( I remember it well ;) ). Make sure you get your puppy well used to travelling in the car so it becomes second nature. I would recommend ringcraft too but not sure if there will be many in your area (we used to live in Dunkeld), you might need to go to Perth. Its a great hobby, we used to really enjoy it but haven't done much for years due to lack of time.
