PRESS RELEASE
RICHMOND DOG SHOW SOCIETY
Outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (Update 2)
After consultations with the owner of the venue, DEFRA and The Kennel
Club, examination of the latest epidemiological report published by DEFRA on
15th August and having completed their evaluation of the logistical and
financial aspects of holding the show at an alternative venue, the Officers
and Committee have resolved to maintain the status quo and hold the
Society's 2007 Championship Show at Loseley Park on 7th-9th September. The
basis for reaching this decision was as follows: -
1. The declaration of 3rd August establishing "Protection" and
"Surveillance Zones" in the Guildford area has not been amended since 9th
August and the expectation that the restrictions will be lifted prior to the
holding of the Society's championship show on 7th-9th September remains the
most likely outcome.
2. The probability of an enforced abandonment of plans to hold the
show at Loseley Park being imposed on the Society is unlikely.
3. An elective decision, on the part of the Society, to hold the show
at an alternative venue would require a substantial increase in expenditure
resulting in a considerable financial loss. Since the probability of
enforced abandonment is unlikely a commitment to incur a financial loss of
the projected magnitude is neither prudent nor justifiable.
The Officers and Committee wish to express their gratitude and
appreciation to all those organisations and individuals who have offered
advice, support and assistance to help them understand and respond to these
unforeseen and challenging events.
