what do you all think of Boston 2008 show I have just picked up a schedule and am amazed at the clasification or should i say Lack off, only 5 breeds on working 4 in pastoral 6 in toys 4 in utility  2in hounds  6 in gundogs  4 in terriers  plus they all have avnsc in each group surly this can't be classed as a general champ show Luton has a better classification  for its Open show,  would love to hear your views on this one, Last years show was a bit of a disaster with awards being disqualified, i cant see next years being any better, the  only breeds that  benifit form this show  are the 9 breeds that gained CCs all the others have lost out and i have the breed that benifits but i still feel  it seems a bit daft to me. May be Luton should have got the extra Champ Show  as it is very well run and a very sucessful show but wonder if they would have cut classes  as well

It's down to the KC regarding what CCs are awarded and where.  It's not judged on the Group system so it's all unbeaten dogs for BIS.  I think it's a very wise move on the part of the KC, as running a Championship show is quite different from running an Open show.  Maybe the KC are just seeing if the Boston Committee are capable of doing it :)

As far as I'm aware there was only one disqualification at last years show and that was down to the timing of the classes.

I'm sure given time it'll be on a par with the other general Ch shows :)

Boston open show used to be a alot bigger (well their open show, which has just moved really) is still very successful.

If Luton had to got the Champ show status they still would have had only 9 breeds with CC's and I can't see how other breeds loose out?  Breed can't be given extra sets of tickets willy nilly, nor can the KC take them away from other champ shows just so Boston could have them.

I can't comment on the organisation of Boston because I wasn't their but a champ show is harder to organise then an open show and I'm sure that the commitee did well for their first championship status show.

Every show starts somewhere, this is the first champ show I've seen start up in my lifetime.

Luton was a show who did also apply for the championship status against Boston aswell as some other clubs and so their must have been a reason that Boston won the status.  Also I don't know if your quite aware of what goes on behind the sceens of Luton?

(just out of intrest what awards where disqualified and why at Boston?)

I quite understand and agree that  9 CC s is enough for a start, that is not what i was concerned about  it was the classfication for the other breeds  with out CC s that surprised me   or lack of them  as you say the show when it was OPEN had a bigger classifaction and was cheaper for the exhibitor to enter  so what have they gained? As for the   The award that was taken away  was because the Puppy that went Best in Show had won the P O T Y stakes  class but the show waited for the final untill after Best in Show  I was watching all this so I do know what happened i was surprised like others that they and the exhibitor allowed this  as usaul the final follows straight on and they did have plenty of time to do it before, but on this occastion the best puppy  went on to callenge in the final after being declared B P I S  and this was against K C rules  i was just surprised that the commitee did not know this  as this also aplies for open shows BIS or BPIS must not go into any following classes But we must remember that it must have put Boston under a lot of presure  to get everything right first time but they like us are only human and mistakes do happen  and we all learn from them, It must be a nightmare, and I felt that the show was quite well run  and most things went ok As for luton I  like you am interested what you meant by behind the sceens it always seems to be well run  but you must know differently , how many shows were in the running ?

I don't know how many shows applied for the new champion status.  I just know that Luton was.  I think Coventry Ladies KA might have done aswell but I really couldn't say)  The secretary Does do alot of work and alot of pushing to get Luton onwards and upwards (he tried very hard to also gain prem status (think of which before he had prem status he schuelde every breed, but after was much more choosey in the breeds he classified)  I have know the secretary for some years now as he used to run a ringcraft down the road from us, has helped us with our ringcraft when we have needed a stand in trainner aswell as we also go to Luton show and have helped out stewarding.  We also have very good friends on the committee.  Also I'm on the commitee for hitchin DCS who does communicate with Luton as we are in similar area's using the same venues sometimes.

I vaugley remember the problems with Boston now that you've reminded me, and yes that was an inncorrect thing to do.

The show is well run, from an exhibitors POV yes, the show is well organised.  No-one can doubt that the secretarry does a very very good job :)

Well it's a lot better than it was when there were NO ppastoral breeds. I kept going on about it in my breed notes; their last open show befroe the campshow we had 20 yes TWENTY Malinois entered which is virtually unheard of for an Open show, then came the first champ.show and no classes! Most of us voted with our feet. Not sure if they listened our just saw sense or what but now we do have classes for 2008 -and a nice judge from here on CD as well! :D So I will be showing this time.
