This may well be covered befor but i've searched to no success! I have only started showing last year with a breed without cc's. I am getting my new puppy soon and as I am hoping to show this time  she is a breed with cc's I am unsure about the difference well other than classes cost more, would someone be so kind as to explain. Many thanks

The main difference is of course that a breed that has CCs can be made up into Champions. Other than that, no difference really other than that the Crufts qualifications work differently. A breed that never has CCs can qualify for Crufts at any Championship show in breed classes when on offer or when not in AVNSC, but a breed that has championship status can only qualify at shows where there are CCs on offer.

You'll usually also get much higher entry figures for breeds with CCs, and more classes.

many thanks that helps, also is there an importance in how many you need to acheive in any year to make a champion? Sorry for sounding so dumb but like I said I not shown before.

You need to win 3 CCs under 3 different judges to get a Champion. That can take any number of years or just a few weeks, there is no time limit. :)

Now it varies from breed to breed, some common breeds such as Golden Retriever will have CCs at virtually every championship show, others will just have a few each year -my own main breed has just 8 shows a year with CCs on. Usually there is one CC on offer for the best male dog in the breed and one for the best bitch, but sometimes theres only one available for the Best of Breed. Entry figures vary so much between breeds, in some you may only have to beat say 15-20 dogs to win a CC, in others you will literally have to beat hundreds.

Thank you Marianne for being so helpfull, just one last question how would you find out which shows have cc's on offer at the beginning of the year? or do you just have to wait for each shows schedule? sorry!

Ah that can be a bit harder! Usually the breed club can tell you, but I don't know of anywhere where it is all published.

Breed clubs? The breeder? these types of people are likely to be able to help you :) but as said before i dont think anywhere publishes it at the begining of the year, it is written within the sheduals though. Oh also you could look at last years show results to see what shows had CCS and what ones didnt, they tend to say Dog CC for shows with tickets and Best Dog/BD for shows without CCs. Although im not sure how accuratew this is.....
You can find show results at

The kennel gazzet will tell you which breeds have which tickets at which shows fee :)  It's already published which shows have the CC's for which breeds up to 2008 I think, Don't think 2009 is out yet unless I've missed it.

Re the show results sites (at which shows have CC's),   Higham = very reliable, fosse = kind of reliable, CID = Not reliable at all!

The next thing to get your head around is which stud band your breed is in so which classes are crufts qualifiers and which placings in which classes give you stud books :)  If you search the site for stud book bands then it has been pasted on CD many times :)

Also not sure if it's been said....With a breed that has CC's you can gain a JW (junior warrent) title...Have I given you enough to think about yet?

Thanks for the advice its really daunting not knowing or coming from a non showing back ground, We promised our first dogs breeder we would show her and she is a non cc breed we have fell in love with the shows though she did not and although we managed a third at crufts felt it was unfair to keep putting her through it and agreed for her it was our last show. Our new puppy arrives on sunday (so excited!) different breed and planning to show but this time she is a cc candidate! so was unsure how it all worked. and the junior warrant was just too much for me to understand at this point, do we have to work out our own points? is there a central system that works it out for you? can you get the same points on a bitch etc etc! wow so confusing! Many thanks for your help
- By ice_queen Date 08.08.07 22:08 UTC
You have to work out your points but it's not that hard when you read the instructions and the forms downloadable from the KC site.

Maybe you could ask about it once you've started the showing and you understand abit more! :D  Take it in abit at a time! :D

- By baxter Date 08.08.07 21:24 UTC
Thats it! satincolli got it right! its abreviation is its original name in the polish lowland sheepdog owners world :-) She is so lovely cant wait till Sunday!
- By LucyD [gb] Date 09.08.07 15:10 UTC
That's what I thought it was but the letters wouldn't fit 'Polish Lowland Sheepdog' - I'd forgotten the other name!
- By Brainless [gb] Date 09.08.07 18:29 UTC
The breed is Polski Owczarek Nizziny (abbreviated to PON at FCI shows), or in English Polish Lowland sheepdog.

The Dog World and/or Our Dogs Annuals have a listing of the CC's and at which shows for each breed.
