Just had a roving report from a friend who is at Leeds Champ show today (1st day of show), churned up mud everywhere, absolutely awful. We are not there until Monday, DoG help us! With hairy Beardies to show, oh, I'm dreading it already.

Oh dear, glad I didn't enter.  I just hope that nobody moans about it because unfortunately there's really nothing that the organisers can do and in reality it's great that Harewood House are allowing the events to continue.

Anyway, I hope you have a great day and good luck!

perrodeaga....i can guarantee that plenty will moan....they always do:mad: despite dog shows being voluntary!!!
- By Brainless [gb] Date 21.07.07 17:12 UTC
Think the main reason people moan as they loose either way, either loose their entry money or have a less than pleasant day.
- By peilady [gb] Date 21.07.07 13:01 UTC
Hi Kay

I've heard exactly the same report from my friend who's stewarding today.. I like you are there on Monday.. g*d forbid the ground is going to be an absolute nightmare.. I've got a hairy aussie so I know just how you feel :(
- By beardiesokay [gb] Date 21.07.07 14:21 UTC
I can't see how we can moan really, we have had advance warning!!! And, it's not life or death, so we don't HAVE to go, but probably will anyway, unless it floods completely, like other places over the UK! I've always got the dog boots/coats ready, now just trying to find my own waterproof trousers - we havn't had it too bad up here - so havn't needed them at home yet - and always forget before going to a dog show - where I have needed them!

See you all there!

Hi folks, just got back from Leeds.  If I knew what I know now before I left home this morning I would not go. If you do decide to brave it, take wellies, ropes to pull each others cars out the mud and a sense of humour.  Its totally minging !!  My trolley is caked in mud, so am I  and the dog. The areas where people are walking are just mud now and that is just the first day!!

Good luck if you decide to go!!!

It's the gamefair there next week, I wonder if that will go ahead?  I'm due there on the Saturday

Wow just looked at the results for a few of the breeds and the entries look better than normal.  In Pom's most of them seem to have attended as in PUgs and TTs so the rain doesn't look as though it's put many people off.

I went today and arrived about 12. Cars were having to be pushed ON to car parks. For the 2nd year running we arrived at our benches to find the grooming area overspilling up to our benches (we are end of alphabet!) so we could not get near (we complained last year to no avail). Last year we were able to find an empty space - not so this year, so we came home without even unloading our dogs or gear. We were covered in mud. Now, yes, we did know the weather would be bad, but so did the show committee, so why wasnt there at least some straw available. Peterborough had areas of plastic flooring for the muddy bits, even though that ground has extensive tarmac. Well done E of E. That is our last visit to Leeds.

Oh dear I am there Monday as well. :-(

Think I will reassess the situation tomorrow when I know what the weather is like. If it throws it down all day tomorrow I think I maybe won't go. Don't fancy being pulled out of the mud with my big lumps in the back!!!:-D :-D
- By fifi [gb] Date 21.07.07 21:02 UTC
Just back from Leeds and yes its definately wellie boot conditions, don't even think of going without a pair!!  Have to say though that round the poodle rings there was plenty of space in the grooming areas next to the ring where we were and once you actually managed to pull your trolley through the knee deep mud it was actually very enjoyable.

Mud everywhere, literally sinking in it.  We even got held up for 60 mins just outside the gate at 9.30am as people's cars were stuck already.

My shoes were filled with mud so badly I threw them in the bin when I got him. I had to have a shower then a bath as my feet were still dirty.

Wellie boots are a must. I forgot mine :-(

We had inside rings but they were also terrible.  White dogs and 4 inches of mud.

Nobodys fault but I would have went home had I not travelled 4 hours.

As posted up to our breed show list  Good Luck to all those that are going tomorrow!!

As most of you know, Jo has a trade stand at the shows and has therefore
been at Leeds since Friday. She has just given me a report of the state
of the show and its not good news.
The ground is in such a mess it is taking a very long time to get cars
into the car park, this is making the roads near the ground grid locked
and today it has taken forever to get into the show, many exhibitors
have missed their class, and not all of them were in early classes. Jo
said somebody missed a limit bitch class.
Jo's advice is to allow an extra 1 to 11/2 hours to your journey, just
to ensure you get into the car park and to the ring in time for your
class.
A similar tale comes from Greg and Sandra, who arrived today with their
caravan and have left to find a site elsewhere. They were in a queue to
get on behind 28 caravans which were waiting to be towed off!!

Just got back!!!! Car park is a nightmare,I saw my boys breeder queuing to get in when I was leaving, she said she had been queuing for 2 hours!!!! Her champion boy missed open dog, although she did make it into open bitch....just!!! Rings are good, its just the path ways around the show ground that is muddy, although I didn't think it was as bad as Windsor!!!
- By Paula20380 [gb] Date 22.07.07 17:24 UTC
Well I've decided to go tomorrow. My puppys first show so felt like I should. Am just going to leave myself LOADS of time to get there!!!:-D
- By Soli Date 22.07.07 21:27 UTC
The rings are fine - the inside rings are fine - the rest of the showground, forget it LOL.  It took us 2 hours to do the last mile and get parked.  On the plus side, by the time we got there the car parks were so bad they parked us on the side of the road :d

Just as well it was worth it.  CC in one breed and RBD and BP in the other :d

Debs
- By Brainless [gb] Date 22.07.07 21:35 UTC
Well worth the long haul then Debs.  My pup from Bridgewater didn't go his owners must have decided not to chance it.
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 22.07.07 21:52 UTC
 Well the CLA gamefair has been cancelled for later on in the week due I htink to the adverse weather and because of the difficulties of parking etc. this weekend.

Glat to see that some of you had a great day today and good luck to those who are there tomorrow.
- By HoundHam [gb] Date 23.07.07 08:14 UTC
Well done Debs!

I could not even get out of our village! Spent most of Friday and Saturday helping my father in law rescue sheep and stop his silage bails floating away down the river:eek:

Went to Leeds yesterday - what a nightmare ! - got parked up alright then had to wait around until 3 p.m for our classes (judge was late)- just as I went in my class the heavens opened and it bucketed down - got last in the class  - both dog and I were completely soaked through - then the car got stuck in the mud and I had to be towed off the showground. ! - Remind me again why I do this

I set off at half 6 and was in by half 7 yesterday just to miss the traffic. Wasn't as bad as I'd thought it might be but then I dashed off at 12 to get back so luckily I missed all the rain.

I actually ended up pleased that I went because it was my puppys first show and she was a little superstar so it made my day!!! :-D :-D
