Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Grooming Sheltie?
- By Benjysmum [gb] Date 21.07.07 22:10 UTC
At the moment I use a Comb King followed by a Mason Pearson brush to groom my Sheltie Benjy.

Not sure if there is anything which would be more suitable?

So would appreciate your advice please.

Thanks!

I would be using a pin brush for normal grooming and a slicker when moulting.  And of course a medium comb for behind his ears and for his furnishings. :)  I wouldn't cut the coat.

Thanks ever so much for the advice.

Do you know where I can get all of these online?

I don't really notice Benjy moulting so when would I use the slicker?

How old is Benjy?  He should moult at some time. :)

I usually use Simpsons.  http://www.simpsons-online.co.uk/
Here's a suitable pin brush GER-73 Gernt Small Pin Brush and heres a slicker that will last you forever Universal Slicker Brush.

Is Benjy entire or has he been neutered?  Some neutered shelties dion't drop any coat, which is a nighmare ;)

Edited for spelling

Thanks for the link Val. Much appreciated!

Benjy is five years old and has been neutered. I didn't realise this could stop them dropping their coat.

He is professionally groomed every four months and usually has masses of undercoat removed so this could be why.

You can get the undercoat out inbetween the groomer with a slicker brush! :)  He'll be much more comfortable.  If you leave it for 4 months, it's like him walking around with a vest on in the hot weather. :(  It is more difficult to get the undercoat out of a neutered dog or bitch, but it is possible with the right tools. :)

I really appreciate all your help.
