Which clippers are the best to use Andis or Oster. Looking to buy some
- By Molly1 [gb] Date 07.12.05 17:33 UTC
I have used both.  But have to say that the Oster Gold are "Simply the Best" IMO.
I have on average 20 dogs per week to clip and they have never ever let me down.
Have been grooming now for about 25 years and have used them for most of that time. Did try the Andis but they didnt last nearly as long as the Osters.

that is what I was thinking Oster......now 1 speed or 2 speed???
- By Val [gb] Date 07.12.05 17:38 UTC
I started with Oster but trimming 50 dogs a week, not all clipped, I found that Whal ProI was quieter and didn't get so hot.  They didn't let me down in 7 years full time use.
I suppose it depends on what sort and how much work you're planning to do with them?

A lot depends on which model you buy, not just the brand.  I used Oster A5s for years, dependable, fairly efficient, but heavy.  Swapped to Laubes "Mini Micro" about 4 - 5 years ago, and woudl certianly not change back to the Osters.  I have sued rechargeable Whals too, but find the power pack makes them too heavy, and they heat up too much for me.  The Mini-Micros are small and lightweight, so very easy to hold and manouvere, great for "self servicing too"  very easy to change levers and grease etc.

OOh, cringeing at the thought!  No, much more mundane I am afraid, means you can do the routine maintenance on the clippers, which saves forking out for the repair people, and saves on the time you are without the clippers.

Denber are doing some laubes on special the Lazor lite. They are better than the osters I think. I have both

How does everyone find esculap, have you tried them?
- By Blue Date 08.12.05 10:14 UTC
I believe they are the best , they are however twice the price to buy £200-£240  depending where you buy them and  they come with no blade they have their own blades which are in the area of  £40-£55 each.  They can only be used on the Esculap.  So get you started you would need to buy the clippers and a blade or 2.

It varies from person to person.  The best ones around the £100-£140 mark and generally come with one free blade  I think are the Laube, Oster, Moser  all of these 3 have interchangeable blades these seem to be the 3 pushed today.  With interchangebale blades if you wanted to pick up a second pair of any of the other brands you can.  The  Esculap are raved about because the apparently don't over heat or get too hot. To be honest my Oster or Laubes have never over heated even after using for 6-7 hours with very little breaks.

BTW don't be fooled by the show stalls for prices. I have found Clippers HG to beat most for pricing and they will through in  a blade with most sets except the Esculap however they are the cheapest for them.

http://www.clipperservices.co.uk/ I have used them for sharping my blades.  The woman there says she thought the moser max 45 was the best with the least problems out of the 3 clippers in the same price range and it comes with a blade. So you see it really comes down to personal choice I think.

The other thing to think about and depending on how big your budget is if you only spend the £130 area you would have at least that again to buy something else you may need.

Depends on the breed!  Whal, have never impressed me, even their dearer ones don't go anywhere near a SWD's coat.  The lighter makes don't last the course either.

I'd go for either Oster or Aesculap as they are the only ones that I've been impressed with.  though of course my breeds coat is more of a wool texture and quite hard to get through :d
