my 10 months old tyme bulldog is not very partial to complete dried foods nand i have had to settle with feeding him meat (chum or butchers) with a little mixer. however, the vet gave me a sample of royal canin and it all went in one go. i do, however, remember his breeder saying that he should not be given complete with a prtein ratio of more than 24%. royal canin is 32%. what should i do? what is the reason for not giving him a higher protein food?
thanks
ian
I have no idea but my vet seemed to shove a sample of Royal Canin in my hand too. My dogs behind went mad. He pooed blood the follwing day. Whether that was to do with the higher protein ratio or not I'm not sure. But, since then I've always stuck to the lower protein ratio. Although, mine are Siberian Huskies it is worth checking it out on a breed website.

Too higher protien for large breed pups is not a good idea...it can cause problems with their bones.A large breed dog should grow slowly and too much protien can cause the pup to grow too quickly

Hi, I would say 32% protein too far too high. I would revert to what you were feeding him, for now, if he was doing well on it. If you are thinking of changing his diet then do some research first and then change him over gradually when you have decided what to change him onto. Is he under/overweight, why were you thinking of changing his diet?
