Hi all,

Here I am again with another question..... :)

Lennon has been with us for 5 weeks now.  He was 19lbs when he arrived and is now 20lbs.

Is this weight increase normal, above or below?

For those of you who don't know him, he's a 7mth old Japanese Shiba Inu.

Thanks everyone :)

Can anyone enlighten me please?

Hi Vicki :)

Haven't a clue about an ideal weight for Lennon but in general I don't think the difference you describe is much to be concerned about.  I'd been trying a few months ago to put weight on one of mine who was poorly for a while and vet said that fluctuations of 500g are negligible.  Now I know my breed's roughly twice the weight of yours but it may give you an idea.  I weighed my youngster one a week (same day) and she fluctuated over a two week period by as much as 1.5kg so thought right, they're ALL being weighed  guess what, they ALL fluctuated by nearly the same :D

Why not phone your breeder and ask what an ideal weight is for him to set our mind at rest?

Not much help, but I do try!

Thanks hon - I have already been in touch with the breeder with another question, which the vet answered for me whilst I was there yesterday with Roxy, but she hasn't answered me as yet.

Thanks for trying - I'll try and stop being such a worry-guts :)

Of course, thinking about it, since he's only 7 months he's got to still grow on, fill out, muscle up etc etc so would expect ongoing weight gain and pro rata a 1lb here and there sounds OK (now suddenly I'm a JSI breed specialist  ) - but with my lot it's probably the extra portions of lasagne that do it :D
