Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / cat food for dogs???
- By hazelprior [gb] Date 08.05.05 18:38 UTC
Hello, hope someone can advise me. I have 2 cats and a 7 month male bichon frise. I have tried various types of puppy food for him, and also the dried complete food, but he does try them and after just a couple of meals he turns his nose up at them...in preference of my cats dried Tesco Cat Crunchies!! In fact, he will bark at the cats til they go away..leaving him a nice bowl of cat crunchies to himself!!

Can anyone tell me if this is 'normal'?? And if I give up buying the dog food, is it ok to give him the cats food? I don't want to make him deficient in any vitamins, but I dont see the point in buying the dog food when he prefers the cats!!

Hope to hear from someone soon.

Hazel

Cat food is far higher in protein than dog food, and in the longterm is very bad for dogs. (My vet only suggested I buy cat food for my terminally ill dog because she was going to die soon anyway. :( )

I would put the cat food somewhere that the dog can't ever get to it, and feed him dog food. Yes of course he'll turn his nose up at a healthy meal if he thinks he'll get the chance to pig out on (in dogs' health terms) junk food.

Hi Hazel,

Have you tried the naturediet that they have at pets at home?  Our Bichon loves it.:-)     He has the lamb and rice and the chicken and rice ones.  I think that your Bichon would be okay with the adult option now he is 7 months old.  If you warm it for about 60 seconds in a microwave it goes all soft and smells delicious and our Bichon eats every scrap. Its about 63p from pets at home or I think you can buy it online but you may have to buy it in large quantities which is obviously no good for 1 Bichon.
