Can anyone recommend a good food for an 11wk lab puppy with a sensitive tummy? He's currently on James Wellbeloved, and was previously on Beta, both foods seem to have caused an upset stomach.
by upset tummy do you mean his poo's are less than firm?
my 13wk pup had that problem on pedigree puppy but when i switched to Burns everything is fine now.

An 11 week old pup's digestive system is very sensitive and frequent diet changes will contribute to an upset tummy. By changing to another food so soon you may contribute to the problem continuing. Try persevering with the James Welbeloved for a while longer. Take care not to be over feeding and allow yor puppy to adjust to this food after being on Beta previously. Add a desert spoon of a natural 'live' yougurt to assist the digestion system.
Your puppy is very young, and has a digestive system that needs a lot more "running in" over the next few weeks to get it ticking over. Good luck.
Snap!!
I've got an 11 week old Lab puppy. He came to us on Beta, not good!! he was pooing about 10 time a day. I too, tried JWB which was better but this gave him terrible wind. I have now got him on Burns, excellent, he has 4 meals a day and has 4 poos which are very solid, no problems with wind and he really enjoys it.
I know I really shouldn't have changed his food in such a short space of time, but we are going to stick with Burns, and when my older Lab has finished her present food, she too will be back on Burns.
So, I totally reccommed Burns Mini Bites.
I've heard a lot of good things about Burns - he's actually on presciption tinned food at the moment which the vet put him on last night because he wasn't eating anything, and he seems to love it, poos are much better, but I'm worried that when he comes off the prescription stuff the same thing will happen again.

My Lab pup was the same and i tried many foods. Eventually tried on vets advice Wafcol Salmon and potatoe. We never looked back and he was much improved after that.
Most tin food obtained from vets is the same as what you can buy off the shelf
In supermarkets only it cost a lot more because they put on a fancy label. (If any one out there and I will expect a few, doubts this simply check the ingredients list on the prescription tin against say pedigree tin puppy food). Best to find a good quality dry food and follow the guide lines i.e. introduce slowly. Jo
My young Flatcoat dog (2 and a half yrs old) has always had trouble with producing firm poo. He would do well on something for a week or so and then it was back to normal, firm at the beginning and loose at the end. i reared the litter on JWB and the others are on it with no problems at all.
He has been on Hill's (never normally touch the stuff!) Sensitive Stomach for 3 weeks now and he is still doing really well, nice and firm all through. I know another FC who had similar problems and she has been on it for some time with great success.

Sorry I am not a regular poster on here but just had to reply.
Please - If a vet have prescribed a prescription diet they will have done so for a very good reason. Most probably you have been given Hills I/D or RCW Sensitivity Diet. These diets are used "when a food allergy or a food intolerance is suspected" (RCW) or "Gastritis, enteritis, colitis, inflammatory boiwel disease" (Hills). Both diets are complete and suitable for growing pups.
Although they can be used long term I dont think this is what the vet is recommending in this labs case. It merely gives its tummy a chance to settle down.
IF you have a look at pedigree chum (or similar) you will see that some of the basics may be the same BUT that it also contains numerous sugars, additives and colourings. THe prescription diets have increased electroltes to replace any losses during diarrhoea and is highly digestable.
I agree with other posters. Stick to what the vet prescribed and then gradually wean onto something like Burns.
I have 4mth pup which is on JWB and natuire diet but her stools can also be soft. I'm trying to get her just onto JWB as she can digest this ok.
Good luck

Just changed my 2 and a half year old Border Terrier from Natures Best onto Burns. The difference in him is amazing, wish I'd done it ages ago. He was always suffering from a sensitive tummy, often sick, but we had no idea why. I finally got fed up with the poor boy being given antibiotics and injections everytime it happened so I did a bit of research, this site was incredibly helpful, my local petshop owner also. Burns certainly works for him and he loves it. His stools pass more easily, much less at a time and are always a good consistancy (sounds like a cake mix recipe !). Another bonus - it's much cheaper which means I can buy him more silly toys which last 5 minutes !!.
