HI, i have an 8 month old male rottweiler that just isnt satisfied with his food im feeding him iams puppy food it says to keep them on it until he's 1 half years. Ive been told i should feed him on pedigree dog ix with the meat tins mixed in. I was just wondering if anyone could help me?! Hes always begging for your food as if he's starving but he always has food in his bowl!

hi, a lot of people on here feed there dogs on a BARF diet( raw food) as i have no experince on feeding this type of food i cant comment. but a lot of people swear by it. tinned food is not a good idea it contains mostly water about 70% .if you like complete food them go for a good quility one . i use oscars it contians mainly meat & rice.with a quilified nutritional adviser on hand to help.they also deliever at no extra charge, my dogs (boxers) thrive on it.

Hi Gem, I have sent you some info via a PM - click on messages at the top of your screen :)
It looks like your dog is not getting enough to satisfy him. I have never fed or reared a Rottweiler on a complete food as I always feed a natural diet. You should discuss your concerns with your breeder assuming you did not breed the dog as they may be able to assist

Gem do a search on iams here,it is not a good food, besides that, they are involved in cruel animal testing :(
I think what rugrott means by a natural diet is she feeds barf, bones and raw food.As do i, aswell as homecooked and a little commercial food.

Have a look at this site
http://www.peta.org regarding how iams test their food,if this isnt enough to put you off do some research into the ingredients they use in their food!
Now i dont agree with most of the things peta do,they can be very extreme, but this video was taken by a hidden camera,it hits the nail right on the head :(

A dogs appetite and beffing food are not good indicators of whether he is getting enough food. what is his condition like. You shoudl be able to feel his ribs quite easily and he should have a discernible waist, and the back ribs shoudl be felt easily. if you ahve to dig around to find his ribs he si too fat, if they are clearly visible he is too thin.
Most dogs will asct as if they are starving it is in many dogs natures, and many a dog has convinced the other half of a dog owning couple that they have yet to be fed, and been give two dinners. Dogs stomachs are very elastic and a dog will eat as much as it can in case it doesn't get fed for a few days.

hi there, i would either feed him a complete food, good ones are burns or arden grange, cant remember the names of others that arent tested on animals and contain no additives.
Otherwise you could feed a natural diet, this is what i feed my dog.
if you are interested in feeding this way then i strongly advise you buy one of these books from amazon: Raw meaty bones by Tom Lonsdale or The barf diet by Ian Billinghurst
