Hello all,
My Newfoundland is refusing to eat his current food - He has just turned 1 year old and is fed on Royal Canin Giant Junior. This was the food recommended by the breeder and he loved the 'puppy version' but has never really taken to 'Junior' and now won't eat it all unless I mix Chicken in with it! Even then he picks out the chicken and leaves the food. I'm worried that this will affect what's left of his growth, but don't know what else to try..
Any suggestions??

How about moving on to the adult version, a lot of people don't recommend keeping large breeds on puppy and junior feeds anyway. He might just be going in an "uninterested in food stage", its spring and his hormones may be distracting him :)
Hi Christine my newf goes off of her food every now and again and sometimes doesn't eat for 1 - 2 days and if she doesn't eat her food after 10 mins I just lift it until the next day, I've never changed the brand of food as it was what she was weaned on and she looks so well on it (I did change her from puppy to adult at about 8 month). If yours is like mine then he won't be that food orientated unless its treats and as the other poster suggested might just be going through a phase.........dogs will not starve themselves so if he doesn't eat straight away take it up and try the next day you'll find he will probably eat it then. Good luck and though its hard try not to worry.

its not unuasual for a dog to fast my border collie does it sometimes.
Thanks for all the advice, he doesn't look as if he's suffering, but I might try him on the adult version and see if he likes it a little more..
Christine
If you try him on the giant adult Christine just check the size of it, I bought the giant adult in the one I buy and the size of each piece of food was about the size of a ping pong ball and she wasn't too keen yours might be totally differant but I was really surprised at how the size of the food increased, now I just stick to adult.
