Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / Advice on raw fed pup please!

Callia is now 8 weeks and I have swapped her from complete food that the breeders were feeding to raw. As I've never fed one so young on BARF before I just want to know that I am giving a good variety.

She's on 4 meals a day, in the morning I feed tripe, next meal is chicken wings, next meal is either raw beef mince & veg or chicken again with veg and final meal is tripe, salmon or mackeral with veg. She also has raw eggs & shell, sometimes with goats milk. I am hacking up some lamb ribs for her tonight.

I can't help thinking that there is something missing. Her waste is well formed and solid. She's now on 1000mg vit C (breeders advice for Briards) and I will introduce offal (heart, liver or kidney) once a week starting from tomorrow.

I don't feed any other supplements to my older 2 as they have finished growing and are doing very well but I am not sure if I should be giving any other supplements to her and if so, what?

All advice gratefully received as always, I knew I'd feel like a novice again with a new pup, I obviously want to give her the best that I can :)

It sounds fine to me. My last pup was brought up on Barf and did really well. I have photos of him at 10 weks sucking on breast of lamb. He didn't actually manage to eat any of though. He could eat chicken wings with no problem. My latest dog is also on Barf, although he is 8 months. Again I have pictures of his first RMB experience. So funny!

Good luck with your pup.

Thanks Claire ;)

I have a book and have just ordered another one but I like to hear of peoples practical experiences as well, I don't think that you can gain all your knowledge from books its nice to discuss it with others. Don't get a lot of feed back from books

Any one else have any pearls of wisdom, or am I on my own with this one??

Sounds good H/p :) I found I just had to add a little of each new thing & I waited a few days to introduce something else, nice & slowly. The eggs I gave several times a wk, maybe a little banana & the vitC split 2/3 times between the day? And maybe some offal, is the fish fresh?

Thanks Christine, yes the fish is fresh, I've just given her some mackeral, they eat better than we do :P

She's had banana, cucumber, apple and mango. As you say, I will introduce a few more things gradually, although she seems to have a cast iron stomach unlike other pups that I've had........touch wood :)

I'll start splitting the Vit C down as well.

Thats a great diet she`s having, my oh sometimes looks longingly at the dogs dinner, especially when we`re having egg n chips AND I`m late with it :D  she`ll be getting certain amount of fish offal if the fish is whole so just small amount to start with & if you can get whole quails? or small game birds, cos they have all the innards with them :)
