A friend gives her dog scrambled eggs every morning for breaky, she has been told that they are very bad for the dog. So i said i would ask you people.

I dont know that they are "very bad" for our dogs, but eggs are high in protein. I was advised by my breeder to feed eggs scrambled, but in moderation, and if feeding a complete food, then the kibble/biscuit should be excluded from that meal and add some mixer if necessary. I know there will be a lot of varying opinions as to how and when eggs should be fed, raw or cooked, but you really have to go with your instinct. At the moment I feed my puppy complete food, but 3 times a weeks I subtitute one of his meals with a scrambled egg and he is fine.

You've muddled me, Julia (easily done at my age! ;) ) Scrambled eggs have exactly the same amount of protein (but more fat, because eggs are usually scrambled in butter) as raw eggs.

Also, biscuit and 'mixer' should be synonymous.

Jeangenie, sorry to confuse. I know that raw and cooked eggs have the same protein content, but I also know that some people would suggest that eggs should be fed raw and not cooked (that was what I was trying to say). Also, please excuse my ignorance but i'm not sure what you mean about the biscuit/mixer thing. My understanding is that complete foods are higher in protein than a plain mixer food. Apologies if my info has been incorrect.

Yes, dry complete foods have more protein than biscuit meal or mixer. Biscuit or mixer is intended to be added to meat to produce a balanced diet. Complete is intended to be fed alone.

I was always led to believe that raw egg white  bound up vitamin B, which was then unavailable.   So I've always scrambled the eggs with a little Flora or some such, and added it to mixer, or even on toast (why not?) - they love it, especially when lactating.

Don't think I'd feed it too often to dogs just on maintenance rations, though.

we have given cooked scrambled eggs with milk but without butter since we had our Staff, she is now 11 months old and she still has them in the morning simply because she likes it . The breeder used to give it to her before and has done so for all the litters in the last 14 years with no problems

i would skip the milk unless goats milk because of the lactose in it can give the runs obviosly your staff seems fine though

as in all things each to their own wouldnt you agree? so long as the dog is healthy

Always feed scrambled eggs to my puppies with no problems but I find as the spots get older they prefer them raw!

Would scrambled eggs made with milk and butter be classed as fattening? My friend has a severly underweight and terribly picky dog,i wonder if this would work to get some weight on him? What do you think?
