I think you will need to research if its ok for giant breeds but Autarky is a good quality complete food(approx £12 for 15Kg sack)

I also have a newf and on breeders recommendation been feeding Royal Canin.
I have slowly changed him over to Burns as I prefer to feed this brand.
It is not much cheaper, only about £5.00.
I could not advise on any other cheaper brands because I have never used them.
I am sure someone will come along with more advice for you :)
By the way, how old is your newf?
Mine is 14 weeks old. :)

Wellie is 15 months old now, very cheeky, naught, cute, has a brilliant personality and has a fan club of kids in the village. Wellie is my first Newfie as I also have a 10 year old Bullmastiff (Parsley), they are so very different. Its amazing how quickley Newfies grow, I thought he was small for a while now he has come into his own and seems HUGE! I have to watch his weight though as he has severe arterial stenosis, at the moment he has no symptoms from, which baffles his cardiologist at the vets! How's your pup getting on? do you find that mud and muck just jumps onto them and in turn onto your floor, walls and doors?!!

Yep...same as you! My house is constantly covered with a layer of muck. I also have a constant supply of garden plants on my lounge floor, which Odin kindly brings in for me :)
Also, living by the sea, mixed in with the mud is a plentiful supply of sand. Downstairs is always covered, even after hoovering. What annoys me, is that it migrates upstairs and into my bed. As my hubby would say "if you did'nt have all this cleaning up to do, you would be bored". Mmmmm. :) 

yes we too find find it in the bed too, even though they aren't allowed up! My dyson hoover is full every day,  dogs eh?! Can't live without the mud trailing cuties!

Purina...Blech. Sorry just had to put my input in.Purina is another crap food on the market Once again too many fillers,by-products and no where near enough meat,if any at all!

I must have missed your previous post.Why are you looking to change the food your on now? Have you tried supplementing your dogs diet with raw meaty bones? This can push the price of feeding way down,you could feed kibble for breakie and give a bone for tea.

In regards to the price of kibble,you cant get a first class product using second class ingredients. Some of these cheap foods on the market are cheap for a reason,you truly get what you pay for :(

I dont mean to be harsh but you really shouldnt skimp when it comes to feeding your dog,you may end up paying for it later in vet bills or a shortened lifespan and most likely your dog will only be surviving,not thriving.

I had an opportunity to get another bullmastiff,excellent pedigree and all that BUT the only reason i didnt take the dog was because i couldnt afford to feed another mouth in the custom that my other dogs are used to and that they deserve. It truly was a heartwrenching decision,i have no problem in skimping on other things for MYSELF,but i will never compromise my dogs health for the sake of a few pennies. I could have fed them a supermarket food,but how unfair would that have been to my dogs...plus my concience just couldnt handle it.Sometimes i take a peek in the pet food aisle and have a look at the ingredients some of these foods contain,and i just cringe with horror and disgust,i could not feed this stuff to my beloved dogs,even if they gave it to me for free,they would be much better suited for a rabbit or a vegetarian considering the measly,low quality amount of meat they contain.
Someone once gave me a huge sack of pedigree which i promptly donated to the shelter!

As i've said before,i AM a food snob,i research everything that goes in my dogs bowls and i am very fussy about what they eat.Afterall they cant make the decision what they're going to get served tonight,it is our duty and responsibilty to do that for them,nothing but the best should do.

Sorry about the long winded post,but i met yet another dog today who's life has been cut terribly short due to poor nutrition and the owner feeding the cheapest foods,subjects such as this one really upset me.

Have compared ingredients of Autarky to more expensive brands and find it favourable to most.

I used to feed it but feed raw now.It is a 100% natural feed with added herbs and has a good quantity of chicken in its ingredients.
You can but small bags from Tescos if you decide you want to try it and they have a website which I will try to find for you .

Thanks for the message Rose, I too feel that I should feed my dogs (bullmastiff & newfoundland) good quality food, which is why I posted the message. I have fed my Newfie Royal Canin since being a pup and now that he is due to move on to adult food (and a change in my personal situation) I was hoping I could save a little money. However I would NEVER put the health of my boys at risk!
